The Glass House 15th Summer Party

The Glass House was thrilled to be back to an in-person Summer Party after a two-year hiatus, and they once again welcomed people to celebrate the 15th Anniversary on site. The Glass House has remained an internationally significant location since it first opened its doors as a public museum in 2007. Their goal is to keep this precious location alive by raising funding to preserve the campus and assets.

This year's event encouraged guests to explore the grounds while enjoying special performances by award-winning tap dancer and choreographer Ayodele Casel and musical stylings by Paul Sevigny. Mickalene Thomas, Glass House Artist of the Year, also debuted an exciting sculptural edition at the event.

Picnicking was encouraged throughout the site, whether on tatami mats on the Pavilion, pillow lounges by Italian textile company Dedar, or reclining on the pristine grass of the Glass House lawn. In between performances, guests enjoyed rosé by The Pale, lawn games, or view our curated auction of over 120 lots of art, design, and luxury experiences, as well as mingle with supporting artists.

During the party, presenting partner Yieldstreet brought frozen treats by People’s Pops. The Yieldstreet Sketch Booth also gifted attendees with their very own custom fashion illustration of themselves by New York based artist, @deannafirst. Each sketch took about 5-7 minutes. Guests were delighted with all the fun activities and everyone had an amazing time at the summer party.

Twenty-Third Annual Founder's Dinner

On Thursday, June 2, 2022, Student Sponsor Partners hosted their Twenty-Third Annual Founder's Dinner at The Pierre in New York City. This year, they made the decision to celebrate each component of their name and the hyper-local effect they have had, especially the healthcare heroes who have given them hope and helped them get through the epidemic. This night will go down in history as the one that honored and celebrated these shining lights among the Students, Sponsors, and Partners. Through their dedication to SSP and their work in the medical field, each category of the distinguished guests has made a positive difference on people's lives and in the communities in which they reside. Additionally, they have put their purpose into action.

Using the power of great education and mentoring, Student Sponsor Partners helps low-income and academically average New York City adolescents break the cycle of poverty and realize their full potential.

Student Sponsor Partners' programs have given thousands of New York City high school students with a great education and mentoring for more than three decades, equipping them for a future with limitless possibilities. Partner schools, sponsors who support their scholarship and education programs, mentors who help students along the way, and college and job preparation opportunities guarantee a pleasant experience and lasting influence.

Students: This year’s dinner featured SSP alumni Dr. Jorge Aguilar and Tyler Roche. Dr. Jorge Aguilar's sponsor and mentor fanned his interest in science, which led him to Swarthmore College and on to receiving a medical degree and a PhD, enabling him to ultimately lift his family out of poverty and give back to his community. Tyler Roche, a 2020 graduate from Cardinal Hayes, is attending St. John's University on a scholarship for baseball and maintains a close relationship with his sponsor and mentor.

Sponsors: We are also thrilled to honor the Flanigan Family. Peter Flanigan was our founder and visionary, and the heartbeat of this organization. Today, his family keeps his legacy alive through their sponsorship and support of the organization. In the spirit of Peter’s dedication to the value of our mission, they are seeding a generous endowment.

Partners: Our partners across New York City are vital to helping us hyper-locally meet the needs of our students and their families. Healthcare partners in our communities provide a critical anchor for health and wellness. Throughout the pandemic, Healthcare Heroes not only devoted themselves to saving lives but also to supporting SSP students through mentorship and volunteerism. We look forward to honoring and celebrating the healthcare stars of SSP for all they’ve done and continue to do for our students, families, and communities.

Opera Lafayette Celebrates Baroque Musique Festival

Jérémie Robert

On May 17th, InvitedNYC was welcomed to a cocktail reception hosted by Marifé Hernández and Nizam P. Kettaneh at New York’s French Consulate to toast Opera Lafayette and their upcoming New York Baroque Musique Festival; The Era of Marie-Antoinette Rediscovered, June 7 – 9, 2022.

Consul General of France in New York Jérémie Robert shared “This festival will redress some misconceptions about Queen Marie-Antoinette. For one, she was fond of Gretry’s Silvain, a work Opera Lafayette will present on June 7th, that reflects on land rights of farmers as well as on the softening of paternal authority through the display of familial virtue, evidently sympathized with both aspects. The Salon de musique of Marie-Antoinette, to be performed on June 8th, reminds us on the one hand that she was a musician and that she was open minded, having the Chevalier de Saint-Georges as one of her chamber musicians and composers.

On June 9th will be a performance of Concert Spirituel aux Caraïbes, which illustrates the global reach beyond Europe of the queen’s musical taste for French opera-comique and for Italian music.” The beauty of each of the programs presented during this festival reveal the discerning taste of Marie-Antoinette.

(Albert Simons, Robert Quinlan, Alberto Mariaca [Right to left] )

Opera Lafayette’s festival programming highlights the relation of historical women in 18th century France to the musical life of their time. The three-day event features baroque music performed by international musicians, a roundtable discussion, gala dinner, and reception. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit https://operalafayette.org/festival2022.

Theater Saves Lives: An Evening of Hope

On Tuesday, October 26th, Ruth Stage and the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation hosted Theater Saves Lives: An Evening of Hope. Featuring luxury artworks donated by generous friends of Ruth Stage, a cocktail hour, and charcuterie grazing stations with  hors d'oeuvres, this charity auction was one for the books As the namesake of the event suggested, it was truly a night full of hope.

The evening started off with multiple speeches. Guests from the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, Ruth Stage, and a guest oncologist spoke about their experiences with cholangiocarcinoma and innovations in current therapies and treatments. A commonality was present throughout their stories—cholangiocarcinoma is an under researched and not widely known disease.

One of the evening’s charcuterie boards

In a special presentation by Stacie Lindsey, Founder and CEO of the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, she explained how there were almost no resources available when her brother was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma in 2005. They were forced to cobble together bits and pieces of information from other patients, online forums, and conversations with dozens of physicians across the country. The foundation was born out of the determination that no one else should have to invest as much time and effort to gather basic information about cholangiocarcinoma, and that those who are affected by it have the opportunity to surround themselves with an empathetic community.

Ruth Stage’s involvement was also drawn from personal connections. After a close friend of Matt de Rogatis’ was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma, his organization the Ruth Stage Company sprung into action. They worked with the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation to create an event that would function not only as a benefit for the Foundation, but act as a physical manifestation of the support system that was there for their friend.

One of the art pieces for auction: a portrait of actress Scarlett Johansson, who starred in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof on Broadway in 2013

The evening culminated in the cast rehearsal of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”. Though it was a rehearsal, the actors gave the performance their all as the room was enraptured with their emotional portrayals of Williams’ iconic play. By performing the scene when the character of “Big Daddy” finds out he has cancer, the connection between the play and the evening’s cause added an additional layer of depth to the performances. The Ruth Stage company was able to bring a further profundity to what was already a rich play, and will certainly reflect this magnitude on the Off-Broadway Stage.

The New York Center for Children (NYCC) held their Flamenco Nights celebration on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Ventanas at the Modern in Fort Lee, New Jersey. Hosted by Catherine Kassenoff, Lauren Vernon and Amy Bluestone, the event celebrated their caregivers after a tumultuous year. Guests enjoyed tropical cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, music and dancing under the stars, in Flamenco inspired style.

For the past 26 years, NYCC has provided free, bilingual, trauma-focused, comprehensive evaluation and therapy services to victims of child abuse and their families, for as long as their healing requires.

Along the walls of the venue was a wall of gold stars which was created for the caregivers, to remind them that they are the bright shinning stars for the kids and families they serve. On these gold stars, were inspiring comments directly from the kids and families thanking the caregivers for the amazing job they have done and continue to do.

Ventanas, the American-Asian-Cuban restaurant by Restaurateur Alexander Duran of Son Cubano and culinary titan Chef David Burke, was the perfect setting for the magical evening, with its outdoor patio overlooking the iconic George Washington Bridge. The mood for the Flamenco Nights setting was in full swing as the DJ played Latin music throughout the evening. Guests were dancing the night away as well as being dazzled by a special performance by Gabriella Rodriguez. The event, while bringing recognition to the caregivers, also raised $22,000 towards NYCC's service to help children heal from abuse.

"Comeback" - A Seaport Artois Event

Ask New Yorkers for their favorite slice and you’re bound to get at least 10 different answers. Some swear by Joe’s, others by the 99 cent, and still others by Juliana’s. The truth is New Yorkers just love pizza—which is why, in celebration of NYC’s reopening, Stella Artois is partnering up with South Sea Seaport over the course of the summer to offer an array of exclusive, one of a kind pizzas from a few of the best kitchens in town.

A six part event series, Seaport Artois’s “Comeback” night, the fifth in its lineup, took place at Pier 16 in full view of the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. Guests were escorted through a photo-ready lounge area, complete with complimentary bottles of special edition Stella Artois, before heading over to the patio-like dining area, where they were greeted with the first slice of the night: a summery corn, pesto, and fontina slice by Barbuto’s chef Johnathan Waxman. Made with the freshest of ingredients, this slice was my favorite out of the three pizza interpretations—unique and flavorful, I wished out loud more than once that Barbuto would reopen just to add it to their everyday menu.

For our second slice of the night, my guest and I polished off an anchovy flatbread from La Vara in Brooklyn. With heaps of cheese and perfectly salted anchovies, this pizza interpretation was the perfect precursor to our third slice: a clam laden flatbread with oregano, chili flakes, and parsley. Both slices were delicious and just the right amount of bread to cheese to topping ratio—no easy thing, but, as every New Yorker knows, a surefire way to get a slice on a personal pizza favorites list.

So if you’re craving a slice that’s slightly off the grid, be sure to stop by at Seaport Artois’ final event of the season on August 19th. Aptly named “New,” this event will feature pizza from a brand new city spot that’s been raved about, as well as the chance for guests reconnect with friends, family and the city they’ve missed.

Secure your spot at Seaport Artois at https://www.stellaartois.com/SeaportArtois and follow them on their instagram, @stellaartoisusa. 100% of the proceeds from this even will benefit New York restaurants and the James Beard Foundation.
