2019 GIG Pre-Party x Christine and the Queens, A True Work of Art
Photo: Scott Rudd
Art is a shapeshifting form that is presented to us in the format of music, food, dance, sculpture, photography, painting, and many other mediums. At the 2019 GIG Pre-Party made possible by Dior, at the Guggenheim Museum, attendees encountered all those diverse forms of art.

The enchanting night began with special guests being photographed in front of the Dior red carpet. Each guest' outfit glistened with extravagance in front of the photo wall. Following the photo op, DJ Caroline Polachek’s performance greeted guests as they came in and enjoyed cocktails, mingling, and hors d’oeuvres. The first floor featured a stage in the center of the room and an area where people were being photographed against a semi-circular lit up wall. Ascending the spiral ramp delivered you to the second floor which had a wall beautifully covered in 4 individual works that were all glass covered in gunpowder. Peering across the building, the white spiral walkway was embraced by blue and purple lighting effects, amplifying the artistic ambiance of the elegantly curated night. The works that entailed were done by Constantin Brancusi and Paul Chan. In between the second and third floor was a room with an open bar paired with dishes such as mouth watering truffle crackers with goat cheese in between and a tender salmon on a chip that dissolved with bliss on your palette. The unique food choice magnified the riveting event.

As the night ensued, it came to its culmination as Christine and the Queens energy filled performance took the stage. The music reverberated through the museum and the attendees bodies, guiding their every movement. The singing and dancing grasped everyone’s attention allowing their sole focus to be on the melodious tunes.
The successful nine p.m. to 12 a.m. event, endorsed by Dior, presented lively music and art. The funds raised enable stellar exhibits to be shown at the Guggenheim, along with enlightening opportunities such as educational and public programming to take place. The gathering of people, exhibitions on display, delicacies to taste, and music to be heard was a live work of art.
NYFW-Inspired Looks For Work
Get ready, sartorialists. New York Fashion Week is upon us once again, which means it’s time to scout the runways for your new fashion forecast.
Each NYFW runway is an event on its own, a spectacle of beautiful clothes and stunning design. One critique that always pops up during this time, however, is the practicality of the garments. NYFW skeptics always retort with this question — when will you even wear such clothes?
The answer isn't as far-off as you might think. If you’re looking to spice up your work uniform, here are some NYFW-inspired ideas that are tried and tested:
The emergence of the short suit
Rather than relying on jeans for casual Fridays, why not wear a casual suit? A short-suit combination is this season’s newest trend, especially since you can still wear shorts without feeling like your legs are going to freeze off. Fashionista’s coverage of NYFW street style notes that this ensemble was a particular crowd favorite as people jetted off from one show to another.
Matching your bag and your outfit
Gone are the days of the multipurpose tote, as NYFW designers are pairing their ensembles with a matching bag. While we all have our favorite tote that takes us practically everywhere, you may want to take a cue from Proenza Schouler and match your black and white suit with a black and white bag. This is the move that will give you serious style points.
All neon everything
Sometimes, the best way to experiment with color is to just go for it. Helmut Lang’s highlighter hues show how powerful monochrome dressing can be if you want to stand out. If you’re not ready to go head-to-toe neon just yet, you may want to break up your outfit with a neutral piece. Woman Within’s crisp button downs provide the perfect canvas for a shocking red or pink blazer. They make a sophisticated companion with their collared detail yet still maintains a laid-back vibe. All in all, neutral colors pair best with neon options, as it provides an interesting visual contrast.
Boxier blazers
Speaking of blazers, boxier styles are now in. Barragan’s show is a case in point, with models sashaying down the runway with heavily padded power shoulders. Boxy blazers are enough to turn heads in any room you walk into, even if you keep your color palette neutral. Shopbop’s plaid blazers are significantly less boxy than Barragan’s, but are nevertheless sophisticated.
Pleats are still in
Nothing beats the feminine allure of pleated dresses and skirts. Pyer Moss’s pink gown is a modern take on the princess dress of everyone’s dreams, proving that pleats will never go out of style. Carolina Herrera’s red skirt is the perfect power piece for days when you need a little bit of a boost. You can easily pair this with modern loafers for the work day and then swap them out with a kitten heel for a night out.
The beauty of NYFW is that fashion inspiration is brimming everywhere, whether on the runway or on the streets. In fact, there are so many tricks and trends to incorporate that picking just one might be the real challenge.
WONÁ Bridal Showroom Opening
“The WONÁ woman loves a luxurious lifestyle and would never be associated with a cliché. She is uncompromisingly flawless, aware of current fashion trends, and would only wear the best quality dresses”
WONÁ, a bridal and luxury fashion label from the Ukraine, kicked off New York Bridal Fashion Week with the opening of their first flagship store-showroom in NYC to exhibit their exquisite Fall 2020 collection. Guests were welcomed to view the wide range of intricately made dresses in an elegant showroom, accompanied by hors d'oeuvres from Laudrée, champagne, and photo opps in front of an elegant floral wall installation.
WONÁ, meaning “she” in Ukrainian, are committed to making the perfect dress for their client, with the goal of emphasising each woman’s uniqueness through the creation of a dress that can highlight individuality. The hand-made dresses varied greatly in style with different arrangements of lace, beading, feathers, sequins and embroidery. The staff explained the variety of customisable details such as color choices to compliment the skin tone of the bride, a large size range, and features such as detachable sleeves, skirts and capes to allow the bride to achieve different looks with the same stunning dress on her big day.
Four collections are released annually by WONÁ. The first is WONÁ Couture which “unites dream and design, lace and decor.” WONÁ White “combines classic patterns and bold styling with a variety of lace and decor” producing a luxurious and sophisticated dress that is still practical to wear. WONÁ evening contains more colourful dresses with quality fabrics fitting for events from red carpet to debutante balls. The final collection, WONÁ Cruise, blends light fabrics with delicate lace to create “luxurious and provocative” dresses. Progressions in current trends remain central to the creation of each collection.
The dedication of the staff at WONÁ to the brand values of seeing women as muses and aiming to create dresses that allow coexistence of both practicality and the brides most extravagant desires was clear, proving WONÁ to be an exciting choice for women looking for bold and beautiful masterpiece dresses that can be personalised to accentuate their own unique character and preferences.

Photos by Eight Senses
The seasons may change, but the desire to be fashionable does not. The Eight Senses, a clothing brand located in the heart of SoHo, makes sure that, even amidst the cold of a New York Winter, trend is not compromised for the warmth of suffocating coats. Their variety of winter clothing for both men and women, displayed at their most recent fall fashion week show, left all who attended in awe. The appeal was in both the elegant styles and practicality that the warm yet spacious clothing provided. The outerwear was not just trend setting, but also logical for the harsh cold and quick morning outfit decisions which stands true to the brands vision: “To make sense”. Rather than dreading the cold, seeing this new collection leaves buyers not only ready for frigid temperatures, but looking forward to them, reassured by the fact that that these high-end pieces will be part of their winter wardrobe is a thought of solace.
A distinguishing item was an over the shoulder bag that unfolds into a coat. This flattering jacket is a must have for women in New York City. It eliminates the hassle of lugging a coat around when you are on the run and in need of both hands. Plus, it’s easy to store and saves you valuable closet space, which everyone cherishes. This adaptable item is especially perfect for the city as it is easy to use and its luxurious style is sure to match any event you attend in the frosty winter days. Not to mention, it’s available in a variety of colors which ensures that matching with your lighter layers will not be a problem
In the winter, your coat is your means of survival -- without it you can’t get anywhere. Hence, having multiple styles is essential. The Eight Senses allows you numerous options to choose from. The styles range from puffer jackets to warm fabric trench coats. A unique item is the backless puffer coat for men which enables a fashionable layering of clothes under it to be seen. It also provides spaciousness, allowing the opportunity to feel free from the typical restriction that comes from being bundled. The clothing is also abundant with pockets, guaranteeing sufficient room for whatever items accompany you on a day to day basis.
The Eight Senses most recent collection is characterized by both style and comfort. It is an undeniable commodity that everyone seeks. Their fashion show was an enticing glimpse at the items to be available for purchase in Fall 2019.
Liu Yong X RISHIKENSH SS20
Liu Yong, one of the top 10 fashion designers in China, wanted to redefine street and athleisure wear in his SS20 collection with Rishikensh. He succeeded in showing athleisure could be a lifestyle but failed in originality.
The show began with a contemporary ballet performance along to what seemed like a mix of Chinese and Indian tunes, which paid homage to Liu Yong’s heritage and the origins of the name Rishikensh.
Then, the runway began immediately following the performance. One by one, the models lit up the runway with bright neon and metallic colors whether it was the entire outfit or just used as a point statement. Even the makeup on the models were bright colors, used as a statement by a single color on the eyes, leaving the rest of the face natural. However, the designs of the clothes themselves were typical streetwear outfits, just with bolder colors. Liu Yong also included several transparent totes and duffle bags in this collection, continuing with 2019’s trend of transparent handbags. Although the designs weren’t anything surprising, he did successfully use comfort to sell athleisure as a lifestyle. The clothes looked lightweight and the cast was diverse in age and race, showing that his clothes embodied a sporty and comfortable lifestyle that everyone could adapt to. He specifically described this collection as one of, “Whether it’s yoga or dancing, you can do so in any of the designs - with a concentrated attitude. We use the softest cotton and other recycled textiles, so that our customer feels comfortable and conscious.”

House of Showfields - The Most Interesting Store in the World
The convenience and ease of online shopping has meant a decline in the inconvenient and not always easy brick and mortar shopping. You know, the kind of shopping where you’re not really shopping, but just following someone around while they touch things and exclaim over how cute it is. It’s no surprise that people would rather shop in a way that doesn’t require them to walk around, or leave their house, or even get dressed....but the House of Showfields is here to change that. BIG TIME.
House of Showfields, monikered as “The Most Interesting Store in the World,” is a brick and mortar in Soho, NYC, that gives Brands a place to showcase their individuality. The store is chock full of cubicles and art dedicated to specific products from specially curated brands: Quip, Inkbox, Skura, NURIA, The Farmer’s Dog, and many, many more.
But what really makes Showfields “The Most Interesting Store in the World” is its aims to facilitate “deeper offline connections” between brands and consumers. What does that mean? It means that the employees at Showfields are fully decked out in their brands gear. It means insta worthy installations with demos. It means performance art and conversations with the artist. It means edible art that you can both taste and take home. Showfields is fully committed to shopping as an experience, rather than a chore. By appealing to the senses of taste and touch, Showfields reminds us of what internet shopping lacks: interaction.
For a full list of brands you can experience, check out HOUSE OF SHOWFIELDS on their site, http://www.showfields.com/, or their instagram, @showfields.

Bluemercury Turns 20!
Barry and Marla Beck, the founders of makeup retailer Bluemercury, have a lot to celebrate this month, as their company celebrates its 20th anniversary. On June 11th, Bluemercury hosted a celebratory cocktail party at their New York Hilton Flagship location. Notable guests included several big names in the beauty industry, such as Simon Huck, Public Relations and Marketing Executive, Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent, interior designers, and Holly Thaggard, Founder of Supergoop! DJ Marjorie Gubelmann, known as MadMarj, provided the music for the evening, as guests enjoyed refreshments and learned about the history of Bluemercury since it opened its first store in Georgetown in 1999. With almost 200 locations, the company has had tremendous success, carrying leading brands in the beauty industry such as La Mer, RéVive, Hourglass, Kiehl’s, NARS, and M-61 Skincare. The luxury beauty brand and spa retail chain joined Macy’s, Inc. in 2015, and its stores are embedded within local communities.

During the celebration, guests listened to Marla and Barry’s remarks on their Bluemercury journey. The couple reflected on their company’s humble beginnings and marveled at the success the company has found. When the couple first started the company in 1999, they were in trouble, and they bought a local boutique in Washington, D.C., and reopened it as Bluemercury. They never imagined that their local beauty boutique would become a key player in the beauty retail scene. The Becks accurately predicted that opening stores in convenient locations would lead to Bluemercury’s success. The Becks are not afraid to mix business and personal life and have stayed true to their vision of having a familial feeling to each store by remaining completely involved in all parts of their company, even with three kids and 184 locations.

Attendees were each gifted a LAFCO X Bluemercury Spa Candle, which was created by Marla Beck and LAFCO to replicate the Bluemercury spa experience. Guests also left with a perhaps newfound understanding of what it takes to run a beauty empire and the power couple behind all of the incredible stores.

International Beauty Show: When Art & Beauty Meet in NYC
What happens when art, beauty, and the big apple meet? A wonderland is born for all of New York’s makeup, hair, and styling gurus: on March 10-12, 2019, NYC was home to the 17th annual International Beauty Show. It’s no secret that I love fashion and beauty, and I was super excited to see what the city was hiding for me this time. I’ve never been to anything like this before, and I didn’t know what to expect. From CBD-infused beauty, WTF hairstyles, and LED technology for wellness, the show was very much beyond anything I could’ve ever imagined.
When I got in, I took a look across the many signs that filled the HUGE hall, and I read “Hair Section”. I went there first, and found myself walking around many live demos, giveaway shows, hair extensions, and product promotions… But it was the rainbow-bright hair tutorial that directly grabbed my attention. The teacher had a rainbow beard, a rainbow hair, and a rainbow necklace, and he was showing how to do (you’ve guessed it) a rainbow hair tutorial!
I then walked around different stands of multicolored eyeshadows, nail polish, lipsticks, blow-dryers, skincare oils and creams… You name it. Stylish and edgy-looking people (both women and men) were trying makeup testers, putting foundation on, or checking out nail designs…
As I was discovering new beauty products and techniques, a group of models walking around the hall surprised me. They were looking gorgeously unusual: they were transformed into beautiful creatures, and were only wearing makeup on-the NYC way! Amazed, people directly started snapping pictures of the models, as they graciously posed for the many cameras pointed at them.
Then, I strolled around the hall again, and I saw a beautifully-lit stage with people seated, as if waiting for a show to start. Curious to know what was going to happen next, I sat down and waited for the performance too. It turned out to be both a fashion show and a live class workshop with renown New York hair-stylists. I’ve seen and learned so much that day. The International Beauty Show was really a beauty haven, where NYC’s makeup and hair lovers could watch shows, meet artists, learn new skills, and know all about the trendiest products and stylings.
As I walked around for hours, I realized that there was something unique and new on every corner of the exhibition. I was too tired to continue, and there was still so much to see-but I wasn’t sad. The show went on for three days. That way, everyone could experience all of its hidden surprises-and I was not going to miss out on that.
The Brilliance Behind Beauty: BELLA's Influencer Issue Cover Party
In adolescence, Gossip Girl was my absolute favorite TV show. From watching the show I gained a sense that all high society events must be riddled with pettiness and egregious displays of superficiality. Bella’s New York Influencer Issue Cover Party proved that glamorous, affluent events can exist without being shallow.
Christie Brinkley on the cover of Bella Magazine
Bella magazine is a luxury lifestyle publication that celebrates the best of beauty, fashion, and cuisine. Bella’s Influencer Issue Cover Party was a direct reflection of the tasteful elegance captured in their magazines. New York's elite ventured to Bagatelle, a French Bistro in the Meatpacking District, to attend this private affair hosted by supermodel Christie Brinkley.
Pagie DeSorbo on the red carpet
Upon entering the party I immediately noticed the decor. The opulent old-world furnishings juxtaposed with contemporary graffiti art provided a sophisticated yet hip backdrop to this art-chic event.
Donald Paul
Laura Kia Chen
The party was buzzing with stylists, photographers, brand ambassadors, and Instagram influencers. As I circulated the room, admiring outfits and making conversation, I began to develop an understanding of what it means to be an influencer. In the broadest sense, an influencer may be defined as a person with the capacity to effect change. Bella Magazine’s interpretation of an influencer is much more nuanced. The guests of Bella Magazine demonstrated a deep social consciousness and recognized their responsibility to use their platform to make a positive impact. The beauty and fashion industries have a long-standing reputation of being frigid and vapid. This could not be further from the truth at Bella Magazine. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming; everyone had a drink in hand and a smile on their face.

In between photo shoots on the red carpet, guests indulged in Plush Vodka or Chinola Liqueur cocktails mixed by resident robot bartender, Barsys. Opposite the bar was a beauty station which featured skincare products by Herla. Herla’s products are of the highest caliber, embracing social responsibility and sustainable development. Her products are made for women by women. Herla has adopted a holistic approach to skincare through developing a harmonious relationship between beauty, self-acceptance, health, and femininity.

Every aspect of the party was a demonstration of extraordinary style. All in all, a wonderful night of beauty, fashion, and fun!

Sophisticated Weddings - Release Party
I wish planning a wedding could be as easy as it was for Cinderella. Let the fairy godmother design your appearance, and you are ready to outshine everyone else in the ball. Well, it’s a sweet dream, but it is hardly the reality. Planning a wedding is not an easy task. Of course, those glory days are comprised of smiles and sunshines, but they also require a tremendous amount of time and energy. There are decisions to make: your wedding dress, the venue, food, drinks, music, photography, and your hair. At this point, I might have convinced you of hiring a wedding planner for your big day. If not yet, wait till you see the release party of Sophisticated Weddings.
On Valentine’s Eve, Sophisticated Weddings held their magazine release party at the iconic Capitale. The majestic building instantly revived the scene where Cinderella is walking into the royal ball with her glass slippers. Following her steps, you will be able to enjoy the same royal treatment in Capitale’s 15,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom renowned for its lavish decorations. This Roman classic 1895 landmark features tall Corinthian columns, Venetian glass, marble mosaic floors, and a 65-foot coved ceiling. With a modern LED Lighting System that lights up the room in any color scheme, Capitale is a perfect venue for any sophisticated celebrations.
During an exclusive photo shoot & interview with Sophisticated Weddings, recently engaged CBS “S.W.A.T” star David Lim and his gorgeous fiancé (and model) Marketa Kazdova praised Capitale as a perfect location for their wedding shoot. I know the word “perfect” is sort of overused nowadays, but they mean it. In celebration of its latest issue, Sophisticated Weddings’s release party at Capitale is a conclusive proof of the love-birds’ verdicts.
In the ballroom, the air was sweetened up by a wealth of dessert collections. Capitale presented a cookie table, on which the coconut cookies dripped by chocolate sauce completely caught my heart. Another dessert table was served by La Maison du Macaron. The flavor of “Pink Champaign” was definitely the one that could have enchanted your guests and advanced your party.
If you paid enough attention, you would find a mysterious elevator with red velvet curtain attached. Took it to the second floor, and you arrived at the “secret parties” where guests gathered into small groups, having their happy hours, and refreshing themselves from the main ceremony. The Red Room was presented with messages from Babor Spa at The Dominick, and a Tarot Card Readings table hosted by Angela Lucy. The Coffee Bar was filled with the aroma of Cupa Cabana coffee, a live cigar roller from La Casa Grande Cigars, and a six piece Cuban ensemble. Want to taste a freshly-rolled cigar by artisans, have a cup of energizing espresso, immerse yourself in the exotic music, or take a peek at your destiny? This is the space for you.

While I was enjoying a sip from my favorite “Belmont Jewel” cocktail, the “Chandeleria Girls” and the beautiful sound of the electric violin threw me into the scene of “Beauty and the Beast”. Immediately after this transient illusion, a plate of mini smoke salmon cones arrived and led me to another world of fantasy.
As you can see from the lightings, there were two worlds in there. The ballroom at front was a miniature wedding ceremony with its elegance and nobleness, while the one in the back gave you a taste of the “After Party Carnival”. Among all the cuisines, the wedding cake created by My Daughter’s Cake immediately blew my mind. Appropriately infused by Christie Brinkley’s Bellissima Prosecco, the wedding cake delivered a silky texture and the delighting flavor of the sparkling wine simultaneously. Guests ate, drank, chatted, danced, and sang with the DJ. Can you imagine how joyful it was to witness the girls laughing and dancing in their wedding dresses? It made me realize how much women deserve to enjoy their weddings the way their guests do.

It was 10 p.m. After three hours of hilarity, the curtain was ringing down. Every guest left with a Bloomingdale’s “medium brown bag” stuffed with gift cards, chocolate, soap, and of course the latest issue of Sophisticated Weddings. Flipping through the magazine, I got to see the finest venues, planners, photographers, designers, and jewelries in the city, while stretching my horizons further to the traveling options of Uganda, Anguilla, the Bahamas, and more around the globe. This “Wedding Bible” completely opened up my imaginations of my own wedding, and it really boosted my confidence in embracing this magical occasion upon its arrival.

When you marry your true love, the last thing you should be worrying about is dealing with all of the potential clashes and frustrations that could happen on your big day. Use your discerning eyes to choose the right team, and that’s all you need. Give it a toast, celebrate the moment, and dance if you are in the mood. You deserve the best of everything.

Fearless Jewelry
Unique New York jewelry brand ‘Fearless’ launches to boost gender equality and women empowerment globally
New, NY jewelry brand Fearless summons all women out there to join it in its mission to fast forward gender equality and empower women.
A new jewelry brand was recently launched in NY with a mission to fast forward gender equality and boost women’s empowerment both locally and globally. Aptly titled as “Fearless AF”, the promising brand champions the inner hero in every woman.
Fearless was officially launched in October, 2017. “We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new online jewelry store Fearless AF. Our mission is to shatter the glass ceiling that prevents women to explore their full potential and make their stand. We want to build a world that fosters a culture of gender equality and empowers all people, but especially women, to ensure a true egalitarian society of the future”, stated Anna Hunter, founder of Fearless.
The new online jewelry brand has an exclusive and unique collection including necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings. Each of the pieces sport meaningful and inspiring messages of women’s empowerment — such as ‘I am enough’, ‘Believe in the beauty of your dreams’, or ‘The future is female’.
Most importantly, all the items carry the FF170 engraving which represents Fearless’ vision to fast forward the 170 year estimated timeline to reach global gender equality per World Economic Forum.
Anna believes that the gender gap can be closed much quicker than the predicted 170 years if women all over the world join hands to work towards an equal society. Her new jewelry store is launched with the vision to help give visibility to the gender equality movement.
In order to jump-start the Fast Forward movement, Fearless will donate 10% of net profits to high impact charities dedicated to the empowerment of women and young girls.
“At Fearless, we believe in the ethos of giving back. We are guided by five main objectives- raise awareness; take personal responsibility to promote women empowerment & gender equality; foster authenticity; freedom of self-expression and stand up for what’s right “, Anna Hunter explained.
Fearless is also working on a new Braille collection for women with special needs.
“We are here to create a line to empower all women to feel strong & fearless.”

Dan Liu SS19 Collection
On Tuesday evening, September 11, fashion enthusiasts flocked to TriBeCa’s Spring Studios to view the Dan Liu SS19 Collection runway show amidst the excitement of New York Fashion Week. The Canadian designer, originally from Hong Kong, paid homage to his Chinese and Japanese heritage with a collection infused with East Asian themes and patterns.
The show opened with a bold performance from a dancer cladded in a traditional red robe and a white masked headdress. The dancer advanced through the aisles in a series of lunges, kicks, and sharp arm movements led by the twirling of his fan, which, in combination with the dimmed lights and low drum rhythms, made an exciting and energetic prelude to the show.
What followed was a series of beautiful and sophisticated dresses, beginning with whites and pale hues of flowing skirts with recurring motifs of crochet and lace overlay. The color palette then fluidly transitioned to pinks and reds with floral patterns, including embroidered roses and Japanese cherry blossoms, which were complimented by thin fabrics exuding a petal-like delicacy.
Paired with the elegant lines of the dresses were sharp pops of color on the face; the models wore turquoise eyeshadow, cherry doll-like lips, and bright pink blush over porcelain skin.
The variety of floral patterns remained consistent as the collection moved into deeper and cooler tones, and from there fluctuated from star-studded navy blue to black and white chic all the way to rainbow striped vibrance, all of them ultimately returning to the very romantic and feminine feel.
Through their fluttering sleeves, ruffled cuffs, and pleated skirts, the designs embodied movement and texture, drawing out a very sensual and tactile essence. This, in harmony with the presentation’s mood, embraced the ethereal, dreamlike quality that characterized the collection.
