Dressed to Kilt, the internationally celebrated showcase of Scottish fashion, culture, and philanthropy, returned to New York City on April 11 at the New York Academy of Medicine for an evening that blended heritage, glamour, and purpose. Co-founded by Sir Sean Connery and Dr. Geoffrey Scott Carroll, the annual event once again brought together standout talent from Scotland, the UK, and the U.S. for a dynamic runway presentation benefiting the Navy SEAL Foundation. Hosted by Dr. Carroll alongside Scottish television personality Danni Menzies, this year’s show embraced the theme “Scotland Cool: Braveheart to Outlander,” offering a fresh take on Scottish identity through both classic tartans and contemporary design. One of the evening’s standout moments came when Eilidh MacDonald, Miss Scotland, took to the runway in a bespoke gown, representing a new generation of Scottish cultural ambassadors. Scottish football legend John Collins also made a memorable appearance, adding to the excitement surrounding Scotland’s return to the global football stage.
Fashion was only part of the night’s appeal. The event also featured a U.S. debut performance by award-winning Scottish jazz vocalist Georgia Cecile, alongside a high-energy appearance from rising boy band Just The Brave. Designers from across Scotland and beyond presented collections that balanced tradition with innovation, including Carolyn Baxter, Prophetik by Jeff Garner, Calzeat, Strathmore Woollen Company, Lorna Gillies, Sandra Murray, and Red Label Kilts, led by designer Deana Lloy. Their work brought an international edge to the evening while staying rooted in Scottish craftsmanship and storytelling.

Guests also had the chance to experience offerings from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, which elevated the celebration with access to its global whisky program and a custom event label, “Kilty Pleasures.” The added touch underscored the event’s immersive approach, where fashion, music, hospitality, and heritage all came together under one roof.
At its core, Dressed to Kilt remains committed to philanthropy. Proceeds from the evening benefited the Navy SEAL Foundation, and several former Navy SEALs participated in the show, reinforcing the event’s ongoing dedication to honoring service alongside style. With its mix of cultural pride, fashion-forward energy, and charitable impact, the 2026 edition of Dressed to Kilt once again proved why it remains one of New York City’s most distinctive annual events. NYJL 74th Annual Winter Ball
The New York Junior League (NYJL) celebrated its 74th Annual Winter Ball on February 28, 2026, at Cipriani South Street, welcoming nearly 1,000 guests for one of New York City’s most anticipated black-tie events. The sold-out evening made history, raising $1 million, the largest amount ever in the Winter Ball’s 74-year history.
This year’s gala served as a centerpiece of the NYJL’s 125th anniversary celebration, themed “Gilded Legacy: Celebrating 125 Years of Impact.” Founded in 1901 by Mary Harriman, the organization began with the belief that women could be a powerful force for good and has since grown into a global network of nearly 300 Junior League organizations.
During the dinner program, the NYJL presented its Legacy Award to Valerie S. Mason, honoring her outstanding leadership, professional achievements, and commitment to empowering communities. Mason currently serves as Chair of the Lender Finance practice group at Otterbourg P.C. and Chair of Manhattan Community Board 8.
The evening began with a lively VIP reception, featuring a striking bottle tower installation from Via Carota and their signature Sparkling White Negroni Sbagliato. Guests also enjoyed live portrait sketches by illustrator Deanna First before moving into the ballroom for dinner, which opened with a performance of “Quando men vo” from La Bohème by soprano Nicole Haslett.
A spirited live auction, led by Star Benefit Auctions’ Erin Ward, featured luxury items and once-in-a-lifetime experiences including designer handbags from What Goes Around Comes Around, a diamond necklace from ASD Gems, wellness retreats at The Ranch Malibu, and a stay at the Four Seasons Ocean Club in the Bahamas.
Following a moving video tribute highlighting the NYJL’s community impact, the celebration continued with dessert and dancing as The Midnight Project took the stage.
Since 1952, the Winter Ball has brought together New York City’s philanthropic community to raise critical funds supporting the NYJL’s volunteer training, advocacy efforts, and partnerships with more than 60 nonprofit organizations serving women, children, and families across the city.
As NYJL President Jeri Powell shared during the evening, the organization remains dedicated to creating opportunity, dignity, and hope for communities across New York while empowering the next generation of women leaders.

Bucket-List Night at the New York Philharmonic
There are some New York nights that feel instantly timeless: getting dressed up, walking through the glow of Lincoln Center, and settling into your seat as an entire orchestra takes the stage.
There are some New York nights that feel instantly timeless: getting dressed up, walking through the glow of Lincoln Center, and settling into your seat as an entire orchestra takes the stage. Attending the New York Philharmonic is one of those experiences—a reminder that no playlist or stream can replace the power of live music.
From the moment you approach David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, the evening feels special. The plaza hums with anticipation: couples posing for photos, longtime subscribers greeting one another, students excitedly flipping through their programs. Inside, the warm lighting and modern design of the lobby set the tone for what’s to come—a blend of classic New York culture and contemporary energy.
Before the performance begins, guests browse the program to learn about the evening’s repertoire, soloists, and composers. Even if you’re not a classical music expert, the notes make everything feel accessible, offering stories behind the pieces and suggestions of what to listen for. It’s less about having prior knowledge and more about being open to the experience.
As the house lights dim and the orchestra takes its places, a deep, expectant silence settles over the hall. Then, with a single gesture from the conductor, the first notes ring out—and suddenly the room is alive.
The New York Philharmonic’s Thibaudet & Pines of Rome program was a vivid blend of myth, nature, and virtuosity. Jean-Yves Thibaudet brought power and refinement to Khachaturian’s rarely heard Piano Concerto, while Stéphane Denève led nature-inspired works including Respighi’s sweeping Pines of Rome and Rautavaara’s Cantus Arcticus, which wove in recordings of birdsong. The concert opened with Lera Auerbach’s Icarus, capturing the title character’s “wish to reach the unreachable” and setting an intense, imaginative tone for the night.
One of the most memorable aspects of attending the New York Philharmonic is that sense of togetherness. For a couple of hours, everyone in the hall puts their phones away and focuses on one thing: the music in front of them. In a city that never stops moving, that level of presence feels rare and restorative.
When the final chord fades and the audience erupts in applause, it feels less like the end of a show and more like a celebration. The conductor and musicians return to the stage for multiple bows, each one met with heartfelt appreciation. Many guests linger afterward, not quite ready to leave the moment behind.
Attending a program like Thibaudet & Pines of Rome with the New York Philharmonic is the kind of experience that feels truly bucket-list worthy—one of those nights in New York you’ll remember long after the final chord fades.

Celebrating Sergio Hudson’s NYFW Runway Show
The stars brought their A+ fashion game to Spring Studios in SoHo on Friday night, where they gathered to celebrate the debut of designer Sergio Hudson’s latest collection at New York Fashion Week.
The stars brought their A+ fashion game to Spring Studios in SoHo on Friday night, where they gathered to celebrate the debut of designer Sergio Hudson’s latest collection at New York Fashion Week.
Just five years after his first NYFW, Hudson has made a name for himself as an emerging designer who knows how to power-dress powerful women. He designed the rich plum-colored suit Michelle Obama wore to great acclaim at the 2021 presidential inauguration, among other celebrities like Beyonce, Keke Palmer, Rachel Brosnahan, and, most recently, Olandria Carthen at the U.S. Open.
In fact, the Love Island star may have become Hudson’s latest muse. She made her runway debut at Hudson’s Spring/Summer 2026 show earlier on Friday, to the delight of her many online fans. Just an hour later at the afterparty, Hudson said he was inspired to work with Olandria because of his kids.
“She'd been wearing a lot of my clothes and getting a lot of splash, and I'm like, who is this girl? And my kids are like, ‘Oh, my God, Olandria!’,” he said. “My kids don't get excited about anybody. Michelle Obama, Beyonce, nobody. But they got excited for her.”
The intimate celebration was sponsored by Woodford Reserve, a maker of small-batch Kentucky bourbon whiskey. This isn’t the first time they’ve partnered with Hudson, and this time they provided craft whiskey cocktails like the Tropical and Tailored, made with bourbon, plum liquor, coconut water, and pineapple juice.
After his quick ascent to fashion stardom, Hudson is looking forward to many more celebrations to come. The past five years have felt more “like 50 years,” he said. “It gets easier and it gets harder. But I’m happy. I’m living my dream and I have to remind myself of that every time.”

Attending the New York Junior League’s “Savor the Spring: A Night at the Museum” on April 26, 2025, was a vibrant evening of wine, food, and community at the historic Astor House. The event was a celebration of New York’s museum culture, brought to life through immersive design, curated wine pairings, and culinary experiences inspired by the city’s most iconic institutions.
From the moment guests entered the venue, each room transported them into a different museum-inspired world. Whether it was the tranquil beauty of a gallery space or the historic charm of a cultural exhibit, the atmosphere was thoughtfully curated to stimulate both the senses and the imagination. The NYJL partnered with Manhattan Wine Company to offer a variety of exquisite wines, each thoughtfully matched to its corresponding themed room, creating a tasting journey through art and history.
The food offerings were just as impressive, with dishes crafted by standout local chefs. One of the evening’s highlights was the sushi and Japanese small bites presented by Ichiban Japanese Catering, whose menu brought refined flavors and elegant presentation to the event. Guests raved about the freshness and artistry of each dish, which paired beautifully with the curated wine selections. Alongside the wine, expertly mixed cocktails from local bartending talents elevated the experience further.
Guests who opted for the VIP package received early access to the event and enjoyed a more intimate setting for mingling, including a reserved lounge area and special VIP bites and beverages. The gift bags were also a treat—packed with luxury items from SkinSpirit, Brashley Vineyards, and more.
This year was especially exciting, as the event raised over $136,000—an increase of $11,000 from last year’s total of $125,000. The strong turnout and enthusiastic support underscored the community’s dedication to NYJL’s mission of improving the lives of women and children across New York City. Proceeds from the evening directly fund the organization’s many community programs and initiatives. Guests also had the opportunity to participate in both silent and live auctions, bidding on items like luxury vacations, beauty treatments, and designer goods.
The energy throughout the evening was warm and inspiring. Conversations flowed as effortlessly as the wine, and the room buzzed with a shared appreciation for community engagement and cultural celebration. The NYJL once again demonstrated its unique ability to blend purpose with pleasure, creating a night that was not only fun but deeply meaningful.

With multiple showings at NYFW, Sahibzada Mayed is making waves as the creator of Naranji, a modern yet culturally-rooted brand that seeks to disrupt the gender binary and transform how people view their identity. We caught up with the designer shortly after AsianNYFW to learn more about their vision and process.
Q: Why did you decide to go into fashion?
I kind of stumbled my way into it. What really sparked my interest was reflecting on how I grew up in a cultural environment that strived to assimilate to Whiteness. For a great part of my life, I felt bound in my own skin and wanted to be something I could never be. This harsh reality was a consequence of persistent cultural critique, representation in media, and normative beauty standards. I’ve always felt this gap between what’s considered fashionable and what cultural clothing is. I wanted to change that and reclaim my cultural diversity and heritage. Around the same time, I started to question the gendered conventions of clothing and why certain types of garments were restricted within rigid binaries.
Q: How would you describe your work?
Above everything else, I believe my work is a form of storytelling. I usually position fashion as a form of resistance to connect with our ancestral histories and reclaim the narratives that have been lost and forgotten. My work tends to be bold and visionary. The visual language is vibrant and colorful to capture the beauty and essence of South Asian culture.
Q: What would you say is the biggest difference between western and eastern fashion?
This question is very close to my heart and it’s kinda unsettling to think about. There is definitely a power differential between western and eastern fashion, and what is prioritized more. Mainstream fashion fails to center the rich and diverse cultures that exist outside of Eurocentric norms and trends. Generally, what I’ve found is that cultural fashion tends to focus on storytelling and traditional craftsmanship. Sometimes, I find it hard to separate western fashion from the plethora of fast fashion brands that have commodified clothes for capital gains. Alongside it is important to parse through the colonial legacies that have defined what dominant western fashion is.
Q: Do you think you draw more inspiration from eastern or western fashion? What are your favorite elements of each?
My work focuses on decolonizing cultural fashion, drawing from my South Asian and Middle Eastern roots. What I appreciate most is the incredibly rich history and culture of garments that has been preserved through generations and evolved over time. I tend to draw my inspiration from that, focusing on cultural patterns, motifs, and visual representations. Lately, I have been stepping more into a fusion of cultures, which is a commentary on the diasporic experience that many immigrant communities live through. I am leaning more on the hyphenated identity of what it means to be South Asian and American, and exploring that through fashion.
Q: What do you hope wearing Naranji can give to your consumers?
Above everything else we want our consumers to feel empowered and be able to express themselves freely. I really think of fashion as a journey, brimming with possibility and growth, so we hope we can inspire others to leverage that as an outlet to explore who they are and who they want to be/come. Our clothes carry the weight of untold stories, narratives that have been forgotten, and ancestral histories that have been lost through colonial legacies. We invite people to reconfigure their relationships to clothes and what they wear as a way to reconnect with their pasts and forge pathways for liberated futures. Clothes are often seen as a commodity or object, but we encourage people to start noticing how they embody cultural significance and meaning.
Q: What was the inspiration for your SS/24 collection?
Our latest collection is titled: “Culture, Costume, and Non-Conformity.” What I’ve noticed is how people tend to separate cultural fashion from contemporary wear. This perspective tends to prioritize Eurocentric norms in the fashion industry. We wanted to challenge and disrupt that, and redefine how we can capture the essence of South Asian culture and tradition while crafting visions for the future of fashion. Featuring vibrant hues, intricate artisanry, and rich heritage, this collection transcends conventions and marks the intersection of fashion and culture as an ongoing journey of endless possibilities. Each garment tells a unique story of evolution and celebrates the idea of non-conformity. There are no assigned gender labels and rather we embrace the fluidity and expansiveness of gender by welcoming our community to explore who they are and who they could be.
Q: What was the process of creating all these pieces like?
I feel like I tend to be all over the place and that’s where the magic happens. There’s a lot of reflection and I just really try to stay curious. What matters the most to me is thinking about what I’m trying to represent and then crafting a story around that. I think what I really try to capture is being able to showcase culture in all of its richness and beauty. So for this collection, I really emphasized the choice of fabric and technique that was used whether that’s chikankari (a form of embroidery) or block-printing completed by hand.
Q: I’m curious about the name “Naranji.” What does it mean, and why did you choose it?
The word Naranji translates to the color orange in Urdu and Farsi. I feel like I just felt really compelled and ended up going with it. Orange is my favorite color and when I think about it I feel a sense of warmth, joy, and rejuvenation. That to me captures the essence of our brand: being held and nurtured like a heartfelt embrace. The visual representation is also very inviting and welcoming which speaks to our values around cultivating a sense of community through our work.
Q: What do you think of all the shows you’ve seen so far? Any trends you’re noticing for the next year?
I’m definitely noticing a shift toward more ethical and sustainable fashion. I feel like a lot of activists in the space have been pushing for a divestment from animal products and moving toward slow, circular fashion. An example of that happened during Coach’s show this season at NYFW. Another thing I’m really sitting with after this season is the continued lack of age and body diversity among models that are selected to walk for these prestigious shows. This is definitely something I want to focus on next year and see what possibilities emerge.
Q: Lastly, any advice to up and coming designers?
I feel like this is a very exciting yet overwhelming time to be in the fashion space. There’s a lot of movement and things are constantly in flux. While this can seem daunting, I have come to realize that it also is a rich breeding ground to harvest new ideas and forge alternative paths for the future of fashion. My advice is really to stay true to who you are and be very intentional about what you’re creating and who it is for. I’m hoping that the consumerist culture really catches on to a more mindful and responsible lifestyle, shifting toward brands that have a strong commitment to preserving culture and the environment.

A Travel and Style Guide for a Weekend Out in Brooklyn
Among the five boroughs of New York City, Manhattan has always been known to draw the highest number of tourists with its endless supply of restaurants, bars, museums, and attractions. But a new study by Placer.ai reveals that Brooklyn is slowly catching up in terms of tourism.
Among the five boroughs of New York City, Manhattan has always been known to draw the highest number of tourists with its endless supply of restaurants, bars, museums, and attractions. But a new study by Placer.ai reveals that Brooklyn is slowly catching up in terms of tourism. The borough recorded double-digit increases in foot traffic between 2019 and 2022, while Manhattan saw a 14% decrease in tourism during the same period.
As Brooklyn also remains the most populated borough in the city, this translates into more sights to see and more things to do for tourists. Since you’ll also want to blend in with the unique fashion styles of Brooklynites while you’re there on a weekend, here’s a travel and style guide to help you out.
Elevate a casual outfit for an NYC-approved brunch
In true New Yorker fashion, you can start your weekend in Brooklyn by grabbing brunch with family or friends. Among the best and classiest brunch spots is Barano, with its seasonal menu of freshly made pasta and wood-fired pizzas that go perfectly with cocktails. As you enjoy these delectable dishes and drinks on the outdoor patio, you may want to elevate a casual outfit of a shirt and jeans with gold jewelry and an oversized blazer from brands like Zara or Massimo Dutti. Alternatively, you can dress down a matching pantsuit by wearing socks and sneakers instead of heels.
Dress up for an afternoon at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden
Once you've filled and boozed up from brunch, it’s time to immerse yourself in nature by visiting the 52-acre Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Whether you’re looking to snap outfit photos or simply want to sit on the lawn surrounded by plants and flowers, make sure that your attire is appropriate for the weather. Note that wearing polarized sunglasses all year round is crucial to reduce glare and protect your eyes from ultraviolet damage while you're soaking in the sun. Tortoiseshell frames like the Impression can be paired with a Reformation sundress in the summer, while the black Borneo sunglasses are more suited for a monochrome fall outfit like dark denim with a black leather jacket.
Slip on comfortable shoes for a walk around Williamsburg
After a relaxing stay at the urban garden, spend the rest of your afternoon until nighttime getting up close and personal with Brooklyn’s rich culture and history. One way to do this is by dropping by the unique neighborhood of Williamsburg, where you’re free to explore the archives at the City Reliquary Museum, have a quintessential shopping experience at the Artists & Fleas, and catch a Hollywood or indie film at Nitehawk Cinema. Since you’ll be wandering around in this walkable area, slip on a pair of comfortable shoes, whether you're in a billowy dress or donning a simple combination of shirt and jeans. Additionally, Williamsburg is also home to several up-and-coming Brooklyn-based fashion brands. Lauren Gabrielson offers essential womenswear ranging from dresses to maternity clothing, while FLAN Labs is the go-to for kitschy menswear like patterned jackets and hoodies.
If you still can’t get enough of Brooklyn after an entire day out, extend your experience by exploring its rich nightlife of bars and clubs like the cozy, tropical-themed Bossa Nova Civic Club. Wherever you end up in Brooklyn, you’re guaranteed the best combination of dining, culture, and entertainment.

The evening began with hors d'oeuvres cognac cocktails, and attendees taking photos next to the Rolls Royce cars on the floor. Models glided down the runway, brimming with confidence and empowerment—two central messages of the Lisa Nicole Collection. Having designed a number of pieces for Atlanta’s elite, Lisa has become a fresh face in fashion circles nationwide. Her design style is known for accentuating the silhouette of a woman with an edgy, timeless appeal.
The collection featured shades of bright cherry red, similar to that of Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance outfit, making it clear that the hue will soon be trending in mainstream fashion. Some of the silhouettes were more structured, calling back 1960s Dior or Givenchy. These looks had varied hats as accessories from pillboxes to lace fascinators to theatrically wide brims.

As a standalone creator, Malan Breton has collected numerous distinctions. “British Vogue” declared him “The Most Influential Designer You’ve Never Heard of”, as one of the more powerful forces of nature in the fashion world. His aesthetic draws from his experiences as a ballet dancer, actor, costumer, and director in film and TV. In 2022, Malan Breton received four honors during Her Majesty the Queen’s 70th Jubilee Celebrations for his work in fashion technology, and philanthropy by the Parliamentary Society of Arts, Fashion, and Sports. Malan Breton is also one of the few international designers with the honor of being invited to privately present his collections to the British Royal Family.
The stunning A/W 2023 collection included compelling outlines and shapes in day, evening, and red-carpet wear, as well as Breton’s famous suiting, which has often been worn by celebrities on their red-carpet appearances. The newest design pieces featured British sartorial tailoring and soft ethereal silhouettes created in silk chiffon, silk brocade, cashmere, wool, angora, and leather.
Breton’s return to the simplicity of fine tailoring, combined with the collection’s sensitive themes of conscience, hope, night, day, and human desire, brought to the audience inspired, eclectic pieces that did not cease to amaze.
The title of the “master of the made-to-measure suit” was not given to Breton by “Fashion United” without reason; the new collection, witnessed in person, made it fully understood! The incorporation of sustainable materials elevated the collection even further; not only for the designer’s notable creativity but also for the message of consciousness it conveyed.
Malan Breton’s A/W 2023 Collection Showing “Fantôme” exhibited a high sense of artistry, style, and elegance that left all present in great admiration and delight.
