11th Annual Holiday House NYC
On Tuesday, October 23rd, the highly acclaimed Holiday House NYC kicked off at their luxurious, new 13,000 sq. foot limestone townhouse at 118 East 76th. The Opening Night Gala offered industry insiders and distinguished guests a first glimpse at the magnificently re-imagined townhouse.
Over 20 talented design firms transformed each room of the newly-built 32-foot-wide mansion, creating extravagantly appointed spaces and innovative designs loosely inspired by “holiday” themes, such as a “Getaway in Paris,” the “Crysthanamum Festival” and the “Modern Royal.”
The show house, which opened its doors to the public on October 24 at Upper East Side on one of New York’s most beautiful blocks, was founded by 21-year veteran breast cancer survivor Iris Dankner.
“We are delighted to be honoring our dear friends and colleagues Design Chairs Thom Filicia, Carson Kressley and Vicente Wolf and our inspiring Honorary Chair Tracy Anderson. We are incredibly grateful to Richard Steinberg and Douglas Elliman for providing our gifted designers with such a marvelous canvas on which to work for the 11th edition of Holiday House NYC. Together we are building awareness about and funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation,” says Ms. Dankner.
“We applaud Iris and the design community’s ongoing support of our organization. The extraordinary talent on display in Holiday House and the design community’s commitment give us meaningful capacity to fuel progress,” says Myra Biblowit, President & CEO of BCRF.

Fearless Jewelry
Unique New York jewelry brand ‘Fearless’ launches to boost gender equality and women empowerment globally
New, NY jewelry brand Fearless summons all women out there to join it in its mission to fast forward gender equality and empower women.
A new jewelry brand was recently launched in NY with a mission to fast forward gender equality and boost women’s empowerment both locally and globally. Aptly titled as “Fearless AF”, the promising brand champions the inner hero in every woman.
Fearless was officially launched in October, 2017. “We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new online jewelry store Fearless AF. Our mission is to shatter the glass ceiling that prevents women to explore their full potential and make their stand. We want to build a world that fosters a culture of gender equality and empowers all people, but especially women, to ensure a true egalitarian society of the future”, stated Anna Hunter, founder of Fearless.
The new online jewelry brand has an exclusive and unique collection including necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings. Each of the pieces sport meaningful and inspiring messages of women’s empowerment — such as ‘I am enough’, ‘Believe in the beauty of your dreams’, or ‘The future is female’.
Most importantly, all the items carry the FF170 engraving which represents Fearless’ vision to fast forward the 170 year estimated timeline to reach global gender equality per World Economic Forum.
Anna believes that the gender gap can be closed much quicker than the predicted 170 years if women all over the world join hands to work towards an equal society. Her new jewelry store is launched with the vision to help give visibility to the gender equality movement.
In order to jump-start the Fast Forward movement, Fearless will donate 10% of net profits to high impact charities dedicated to the empowerment of women and young girls.
“At Fearless, we believe in the ethos of giving back. We are guided by five main objectives- raise awareness; take personal responsibility to promote women empowerment & gender equality; foster authenticity; freedom of self-expression and stand up for what’s right “, Anna Hunter explained.
Fearless is also working on a new Braille collection for women with special needs.
“We are here to create a line to empower all women to feel strong & fearless.”

Sundara Gala
On September 27th, the Sundara team hosted its annual gala at Casa La Femme in West Village. The event supported Sundara’s global mission to provide every child with access to essential hygienic goods and education. Sundara focuses on recycling old bars of soap from hotels that would otherwise be thrown away, employing women to be “hygiene ambassadors.” These women issue the soap and provide lessons on hygiene to community centers, schools, orphanages, and so forth.
Guests at the gala enjoyed drinks, live entertainment, hors d'oeuvres, a photo booth, and a live auction. One of the features of the night included a lively belly dancing performance, which was undoubtedly a crowd favorite. The auction, which was made possible by sponsors such as LUSH, Worth, Barry’s Bootcamp, Hyatt, and others, provided guests with a variety of prizes to go home with, all contributing to Sundara’s operation.
Overall, the evening was a hit. Many guests came to show their support, and Sundara’s efforts will continue to inspire everyone who attended. If you wish to make a donation, see below

ABOUT THE CASITA MARIA CENTER FOR ARTS & EDUCATION:
For more than 80 years, Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education has served as a cultural and community anchor for thousands of young people and their families in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx. Casita has earned a reputation as the first and oldest Latino charity in New York City. The mission of the Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education is to empower youth and their families by creating a culture of learning through high quality social, cultural, and educational opportunities.
Casita Maria was founded in 1934 by Claire and Elizabeth Sullivan, two schoolteachers in the living room of their apartment. Their goal was to give the children of recently arrived Latino families the support they needed to meet the challenges of a new language and a novel school system. The hope was that the young would thrive in their new homeland and lead their parents and their community to full participation in the American Dream. By developing innovative responses and programs as issues arose, relocating to the South Bronx as its community moved around the city, Casita has been able to effectively serve each new generation. By 1961, Casita was offering programs and essential services to thousands of New Yorkers. Even when the Bronx “burned” in the 1970's, Casita remained a safe haven and a gateway to opportunity. Today, Casita Maria is an institution, a driving force for scholastic enrichment through its vital after school and educational programs that focus on the arts and technology.
Dessert Goals: Joy Edition
In preparation of their dessert-only food festival, which began this past weekend and will continue on to the next, Dessert Goals held a preview on Saturday, October 13th, providing a special sneak peek of all the sweetness to come. As New York’s first all-dessert festival, this year’s Dessert Goals: Joy Edition provides a taste of the city’s dessert scene, featuring works from New York’s best experts on everything sweet, from trendy novelties to exotic delicacies to plain simple deliciousness.
In the spacious, waterfront location of Sound River Studios in Long Island City, over twenty unique dessert vendors set up shop amidst a mirage of rainbow colored streamers, balloons, and candy bracelets. Fitting with the theme of Joy Edition, the event was pet-friendly and welcomed pups to join in on the fun. With desserts and puppies, it doesn’t get much better.
The collection of the desserts themselves can only be described as a diverse medley of all the goodies NYC has to offer, spanning from the fresh lightness of Meringueshop’s 100% vegan aquafaba-based dragon fruit gelée meringue treats, to the all-out decadence of Sugar and Water’s “dossants” aka donut croissants aka flaky, buttery, sugar powdered goodness.
Other innovative creations include I CE NY’s rolled ice cream, Stuffed Ice Cream bouquets, and Keki Modern Cake’s purple yam “bouncy” cheesecakes while more classic delights include maple walnut pie from Petee’s Pie Company and traditional Canadian butter tarts made by BTarts. Whether it be creations or originals, Dessert Goals has something for everyone, not excluding those with dietary restrictions; Smoothme’s all natural “nice” cream, made with frozen fruit and coconut cream, is the perfect sweet treat for health-food enthusiasts and vegans (and frankly, those of us who could use some fruit after eating six donuts). Dessert Goals: Joy Edition covers all the bases: desserts you never knew could exist, desserts you’ve always wanted to try, matcha everything, and Instagram-worthy treats almost too beautiful to eat.

It was a moving evening with every speaker receiving a standing ovation. I want to applaud everyone who showed up tonight.”
Susan Sarandon and Somaly Mam together on stage made an indelible impression. Said Susan, “In this time when you can be disheartened and distraught, look instead at how many women are finding their voices and how many men are standing beside them. Love is a powerful force and we are all privileged to be part of the love Somaly Mam brings to a difficult story. Look at what Somaly has done, what one person can do. She invited me to meet the young women and girls in her program. What I met were strong women. You don’t forget the past but you can move forward”. Said Somaly on closing, “Susan, I love you very much”.

Taste Williamsburg Greenpoint
Fall’s officially started, but block party season isn’t over until we review the street event to top them all: Taste Williamsburg Greenpoint, the biggest summer tasting event in all of the New York City.
A tradition of nine years, Taste WG is a celebration of the many local eateries that give North Brooklyn it’s distinctive, local flavor. Restaurants, bars and breweries both old and new gather together to put out samples of their menus for everyone to enjoy, with this years sampling including tostadas from Zona Rosa, bruschetta from Leuca, and mac and cheese from Pies and Thighs, among many, many, others. Some of my personal favorites were the donuts from Du’s Donuts, as well as a brand new pasta from @baranobk.
In addition to the abundance of delectable treats, Taste WG also provides entertainment for the whole family -- live music, a DJ set by electro DJ ghostbaby, and activities and games hosted by the YMCA. This year, kids and parents alike could participate in yoga, basketball, a massive Jenga play corner, and even take funky, prop filled pictures in a complimentary photo booth in between trying out bites or beer.
And in case the food wasn’t enough to tempt you, all proceeds from Taste WG go to The Firehouse North Brooklyn Community Center, an organization that fosters civic and community activity in Brooklyn.
For a full list of participating vendors at Taste Williamsburg Greenpoint, check out their website, http://www.tastewg.com/ or instagram: @taste_wg.
