Curtain Call at Amali
On Monday, November 8th, stars gathered to toast Jessica Vosk, a Broadway performer who sold out her Carnegie Hall show. Glasses filled with drinks from a seasonal cocktail list, organic wine menu and Mediterranean beer array clinked in celebration of the joyous occasion at Mediterranean restaurant Amali’s 10th Anniversary Party.
The Mediterranean way of life that the restaurant Amali, which opened in 2011 is modeled after, is present in the atmosphere. The owners, James Mallios, Kylie Monagan, Tanya Saxena, and Michael Van Camp ensured this execution from design, to food and drink. The executive chef of this Midtown East neighborhood restaurant, Alex Tubero, emphasizes vegetables, olive oil, cheese, grains and fish in his masterminded menu. Growing up in South Florida, constant exposure to seafood and fresh produce has allowed Alex’s love for cooking to develop into a distinguished culinary background.
From the cauliflower garnished in a harmonious blend of colatura, golden raisins and mint to dishes like the Maine lobster ravioli, Filet Mignon, and Spanish Octopus, the food at Amali evokes the highest sensory experience. The restaurant’s menu, which fuses historical traditions of the Mediterranean with modern-day New York City, has been enjoyed by many popular celebrities including Zac Posen, David Burtka, Pentatonix singer Scott Hoying, Dear Evan Hansen concertmaster Justin Smith, and American Idol star Melinda Doolittle.
The highly acclaimed restaurant is a humble welcome for greatness. They boast a commitment not just to their guests but to the world at large. Their dedication to sustainability has garnered Amali recognition from the Obamas, Slow Food Society, and the New York Times. They even promote musical talent, hosting The New Power Trio on Sundays with Dear Evan Hansen Concertmaster Justin Smith and fellow Broadway alums along with Jazz Trio performances on Monday.
Open from Monday-Sunday, dining, celebrating or grabbing a drink at Amali is an experience you will relive for weeks on end.
Havana Film Festival 2021
The Havana Film Festival NY (www.HFFNY.com), a project of The American Friends of the Ludwig Foundation of Cuba, returned to theaters from November 5 through November 11th to present an exceptional program of 32 films celebrating the diversity of voices and cultural expressions of Ibero =America and its diaspora. All screenings, panels, and specials took place in-person at the Village East Cinema in New York City.
The festival’s opening night saw the NY premiere of multi-award winning Colombian film El Ovido Que Seremos, Memories of my Father by renowned writer Hector Abad Faciolince.
Héctor Abad Faciolince, born in Medellin in 1958, is a Colombian novelist, essayist, journalist, and editor. He is considered one of the most talented writers in Latin American literature, and is famous for his novelized autobiography about his father, El olvido que seremos / Oblivion: A Memoir which was an international best-seller, and its cinematic adaptation by Fernando Trueba, which won the Goya for Best Ibero American Film in 2021, securing the first ever Goya Award for Colombia!
The event began with the press call, where interviews for press were given by the film stars. It then went on with the red carpet before the opening ceremony began. Hosted by Colombian actress Kika Child and NY-based content creator Martin Nuñez-Bonilla, the opening ceremony was filled with interesting people happy to celebrate the artists.
After the opening ceremony, the film began. The story was about a Colombian writer's father. His father was a University MD professor who promoted tolerance and human rights in his country. Throughout the movie, the writer relays his feelings related to his lovely father as he describes his family story and all drama related to the killing of his father. The movie portrays the violence that has haunted Colombia life during the last three decades. What was captivating about this film was the fact that it tackled different societal subjects that many people go through: culture, education, traditions, oppression, social inequality, etc, and was able to address them in an ironic, dramatic and romantic way.
The film was set in two timelines, one in Turin,1983, where the main character Héctor is summoned to a ceremony honoring his father, and another timeline in the writer’s childhood in 1970s Medellín, where much of the film takes place.
It is obvious from the beginning that we are seeing everything from the point of view of Héctor, who is later nicknamed Quiquín, and beautifully played by Nicolás Reyes. Quiquín is portrayed as a troublesome young boy who’s indulged by his doctor father on a regular basis.
Half way through the popcorn, we realize that the movie has its uneven moments, aspects of plot that feel rather a diversion from any central narrative. However, the key element is the closeness of this father-son bond that is very touching, as is our sense of the growing cruelty of a society that goes after those who are most concerned to improve it.
Overall, the film is not lacking in sentimentality, but the inspiring example of the hero, a man who put his beliefs above his own life, is genuinely moving.
The event concluded with a small party where everyone was celebrating the outstanding movie and culture. The film festival is still going on through November 11th, and will end on its closing night with the film MAIXABEL from director Icíar Bollaín. Both movies will remain in the theater after the festival if you’re interested in watching them, and you can also purchase the book “Memories of My Father” online or in stores currently.

Theater Saves Lives: An Evening of Hope
On Tuesday, October 26th, Ruth Stage and the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation hosted Theater Saves Lives: An Evening of Hope. Featuring luxury artworks donated by generous friends of Ruth Stage, a cocktail hour, and charcuterie grazing stations with hors d'oeuvres, this charity auction was one for the books As the namesake of the event suggested, it was truly a night full of hope.
The evening started off with multiple speeches. Guests from the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, Ruth Stage, and a guest oncologist spoke about their experiences with cholangiocarcinoma and innovations in current therapies and treatments. A commonality was present throughout their stories—cholangiocarcinoma is an under researched and not widely known disease.
One of the evening’s charcuterie boards
In a special presentation by Stacie Lindsey, Founder and CEO of the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, she explained how there were almost no resources available when her brother was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma in 2005. They were forced to cobble together bits and pieces of information from other patients, online forums, and conversations with dozens of physicians across the country. The foundation was born out of the determination that no one else should have to invest as much time and effort to gather basic information about cholangiocarcinoma, and that those who are affected by it have the opportunity to surround themselves with an empathetic community.
Ruth Stage’s involvement was also drawn from personal connections. After a close friend of Matt de Rogatis’ was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma, his organization the Ruth Stage Company sprung into action. They worked with the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation to create an event that would function not only as a benefit for the Foundation, but act as a physical manifestation of the support system that was there for their friend.
One of the art pieces for auction: a portrait of actress Scarlett Johansson, who starred in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof on Broadway in 2013
The evening culminated in the cast rehearsal of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”. Though it was a rehearsal, the actors gave the performance their all as the room was enraptured with their emotional portrayals of Williams’ iconic play. By performing the scene when the character of “Big Daddy” finds out he has cancer, the connection between the play and the evening’s cause added an additional layer of depth to the performances. The Ruth Stage company was able to bring a further profundity to what was already a rich play, and will certainly reflect this magnitude on the Off-Broadway Stage.

EXXXOTICA 2021
Pre-show, all signs were pointing to the 2021 edition of EXXXOTICA New Jersey (https://exxxoticaexpo.com) lined up to be big, but how big was anyone's guess. After 726 days since the adult convention's doors last opened at the New Jersey Expo Center in Edison, attendees, exhibitors and stars alike were thirsty for the return of the nation's largest event dedicated to love and sex. As the massive banner that decorated the entry way and the hashtags on social media said, "It's About F***ing Time," and it seems the thousands of men, women and couples from the New Jersey/New York metro area emphatically agreed.
Three Expo Events, the producers of EXXXOTICA New Jersey, presented by MyFreeCams (http://myfreecams.com), had their gut-feelings this was going to be a big show, with advance ticket sales trending over the 12 previous years the expo had been in the Garden State, including the 10th anniversary show in 2017 that saw record numbers, and that feeling proved to be right on the money.
Every day of EXXXOTICA surpassed all previous shows of any of the previous 44 events held across the country since the show's inception 16 years ago. When all was said and done, EXXXOTICA New Jersey cemented its reputation as the largest adult event in the United States.
"We always look forward to EXXXOTICA New Jersey, so it was hard postponing 2020's show along with our other cities," said J. Handy of Three Expo Events, and Director of EXXXOTICA. "We didn't know when we would be back or how the shows would go. When we got the "all clear" to start up again in 2021, and with the success of our Chicago and Miami shows, we knew our Jersey show would crush it. And man, did it. We want to thank everyone that made this such an incredible show, especially our sponsors, exhibitors, stars, stage performers, seminar speakers, staff, and most importantly everyone who came out and had a crusher of an event!"
When EXXXOTICA opened its doors for "Ladies Free Friday," and throughout the weekend until the doors closed Sunday night, thousands of men, women and couples flowed through the doors to meet their favorite stars, visit over 100 exhibitors, take in stage shows, seminars, explore their fantasies at CouplesX, or the interactive Dungeon Experience, and pack the various after parties around the area.

The men, women and couples had their questions answered and interests piqued by a broad range of topics ranging from the mild to the wild and all points in between.
Spotlight, sponsored by leading fantasy toy makers, Bad Dragon (https://bad-dragon.com) was arguably the busiest destination on the show floor. Fans had the opportunity to meet their favorite adult film stars, including legends and the hottest names including, Stormy Daniels, Jesse Jane, Violet Myers, Katie Morgan, Reya Sunshine, Kenzie Reeves, Brooklyn Chase, Joanna Angel, Britney Amber, Vicki Chase, Alex Coal, Jessie Lee, Kenzie Taylor, Vina Sky, Lacy Lennon, Lilly Bell, Jessie Saint, Evan Stone, Bridgette B., Keisha Grey, Nicollete Shea, April O'Neil, Jillian Janson and many more.

EXXXOTICA's LGBTQ+ initiative, SW!TCH, also sponsored by Bad Dragon, made sure to promote the message of inclusion as LGBTQ+-friendly companies and talent to the many who came out to support and show their queer pride.
The show's Dungeon Experience hosted many who were there to learn more, play or just people watch. And, the show's new and improved lifestyle area, CouplesX, sponsored by Kasidie (https://kasidie.com), featured swinger-friendly seminars, meet and greets at the show and after hours, and more.
Speaking of after hours, EXXXOTICA kept the fun going with the show's official after parties. Thanks to VIP sponsors Sapphire 60 (https://nysapphire.com), attendees enjoyed the hottest parties with the stars of EXXXOTICA at hot spots such as the Sapphire clubs in New York, Blush Gentlemen's Club in North Jersey, and the show's host hotel with live music by Big Bang Baby, DJ Chelli and Joe Trivia.
EXXXOTICA's "Safe & Sexy" program sponsored by Chaturbate, provided masks for those who wanted as well as other protocols put into place which follow all recommendations from health and safety officials. Also, City Testing Services (https://ctestingservices.org/) was on hand to provide attendees with free rapid and PCR tests to help keep everyone safe.

The Glass Penthouse
The Glass Penthouse is a 6,500 square foot private residence currently for sale or rent in the East Village, designed by former CEO of HBO Michael Fuchs. On October 14, at an event displaying the spectacular architecture of the penthouse, Fuchs explained how his vision for this residence was similar to his philosophy for HBO when it was an emerging media company: be different.
The apartment was renovated drastically into the modern haven it is today, with part of the second floor being removed to allow for the opening to the skylight roof. Fuchs wanted to escape the feeling of being boxed in, leading to the beautiful glass ceiling that spans the living space, as well as a roof terrace and patio on each side of the penthouse. This renovation occurred at a historic moment of architectural change in the East Village and was a thrilling challenge.
Over the years, Fuchs has hosted legendary Oscars parties at the Glass Penthouse, with at a point there being more Hollywood studio heads in that penthouse than back in Hollywood! This includes being the place for the after-party celebrations for the 1995 Forrest Gump Academy Award winnings.
Aysha Saeed, creative director of fashion brand AYSHA NY included a presentation of her latest designs, some of which have been inspired by the Glass Penthouse. Live violin music and tequila cocktails by Lebron James’ Lobos 1707 set the scene for experiencing the incredible residence that is The Glass Penthouse.

Chuck's Vintage Arrives in NYC
We toasted the arrival of iconic California-based store Chuck’s Vintage at a private party at Classic Cars of Manhattan at Pier 76. Notable VIPs gathered for this celebration honoring the legacy of the brand that mixed vintage vibes with edgy New York City fashion tones. There was also a special live entertainment from DJ Lee Kalt and vocalist Xandra K.
The festivities toasted the opening flagship retail outlet, as well as the illustrious career of Chuck’s Vintage founder, Madeline Cammarata. Hailing from a fashion background as a renowned model, Madeline found a powerful niche in the world of denim. Her style sensibilities provided an instrumental foundation for fabric development with powerful brands like 7 For All Mankind.
In 2006, she started Chuck’s Vintage, which overnight became a true American original. Her abundant collection became treasured wear for celebrities and business elites from Steve Jobs to famous musicians such as Dolly Parton, Robert Plant, Morrisey and more. From the famous to just pure classic style lovers, they have all at one point crossed the threshold of Chuck’s Vintage in the California hotspot shop - where even once a world-renowned denim archivist saw fit to entrust Madeline with millions of dollars’ worth of collectible denim that she proudly sold.
Vinnie Cammarata, husband of the Chuck’s Vintage creator who passed from a sudden illness, helped host the party that paid tribute to both Madeline and the iconic business. James DiPrima, who is the business proprietor and Current CEO of GreenStream, was also in attendance.
“This is our way of not only keeping Madeline’s legacy alive, but also growing the brand that she grew from the ground up and made a sensation worldwide,” stated DiPrima in a recent interview with Social Life Magazine. “I and everyone who knew and worked with Madeline want to share her passion and innovation with everyone.”
The evening celebrated the new store’s collection of vintage denim - in the Upper East Side location it ranges from Strongholds found in the California Gold Rush mines to World War II-Era Levi’s, Lees, and Wranglers, as well as 1960’s ladies high-waisted and groovy deadstock Levi’s bells. Chuck’s will also showcase the founder’s collection of Classic American Cool workwear: rugged military and work boots, buttery leather bomber jackets, and soft, perfectly worn-in vintage 70’s rock tees.
They’ve set up a new flagship retail outlet at the basement of 173 East 91st Street. We expect Chuck’s Vintage to soon become a New York City favorite place to shop for vintage clothing. Doors officially open in October and plans to reopen a new store in California will follow in 2022.

Sereneco Opening – All American in an Ocean of Light
On Thursday, 23rd September, the new All-American restaurant Sereneco officially opened its doors. Situated on the ground floor of the historical Pencil Factory, owners Billy Van Dolsen and Jim Nawn have turned the former industrial space into a light-flooded dinner gem welcoming guests to the center of Greenpoint.
Exterior
The captivating interior was designed in an Esperanto architecture style with different cultural influences carefully chosen and represented in the space. While the team preserved the raw brick, beams, and concrete floors as a homage to the original structure, attentive guests might notice the esperanto influence as for example represented by the hand-made terracotta tiles hand-crafted directly in Mexico. One of the main and successfully achieved goals of the design team was to illuminate the formerly dark space by introducing lighting that is now flooding the space with a warm yellow glow.
Interior
Not just the design, but also the dinner menu is carefully selected as a homage to American culture with attention to its many culinary influences. Highlights include the grilled and perfectly spiced prawns as well as the whipped ricotta, infused with orange blossom water and topped off with crispy house-made focaccia for the small plates. Hungrier guests are recommended to indulge in either the well-balanced Kale Salad, the soft Roasted Organic Half Chicken,or the Seared Arctic Char, all of which materialized as clear favorites during the preview events.
Grilled Prawns and Salmon Rillette
Half Roasted Chicken and Kale Salad
To top off the well-balanced and healthy dinner choices, Sereneco offers a selection of primarily biodynamic and locally sourced wines that wonderfully complement any choice of food. For some guests, it might also be a first opportunity to try out the trending semi-dry orange wine variation that surprises with a perfect balance of acidity and sweetness.
Orange and White Wine
After its official opening, guests will also be able to enjoy any of the featured and elegant cocktails or choose from a broad selection of local draft beer which makes the restaurant even more of a must go-to for Greenpoint locals and visitors.
If you would like to make a reservation or browse more information about the space and menu, visit Sereneco’s website and Instagram.
Located on 113 Franklin Street, Sereneco is open for indoor and outdoor dining from
Tuesday – Sunday, 9am-3pm & 5:30pm – 11pm.
Casa Ora Reopening – Dining with a smile
If you’re looking for elegant comfort food in Brooklyn, there’s no place we recommend more than Venezuelan family-owned restaurant Casa Ora. A Williamsburg staple since 2019, the restaurant, run by Isbelis Diaz, her son Ivo Diaz, and his wife Rachel Diaz Pirard, has reopened just in time for Hispanic Heritage Month— making it the perfect place to both explore the many layers of Venezuelan cuisine and have an intimate dining experience like no other.
Led by Chef Ivo Diaz, menu items at Casa Ora include creative dinner plates such as the Baby Shark (monkfish wrapped in ripe plaintain and simmered in caramelized coconut milk), and the delicious Asa Negro (braised short rib with burnt papelon sauce, yucca, pickled papaya, and peanut praline). All ingredients inspiring the seasonal brunch and dinner menus are locally and sustainably sourced whenever possible, which emphasizes the family’s commitment to making every dining experience not just pleasant but also sustainable. The corresponding cocktail menu offers an extensive selection of mezcal, tequila and rum-based drinks. This, coupled with Casa Ora’s tropical and eclectic aesthetic, will transport guests right from NYC to the country’s subtropical grasslands.

But the restaurant’s features and menu are not it's only exceptional aspects. Adding a unique homey feel to the environment is the constant presence of it’s namesake—aka Ivo and Rachel’s three-year-old daughter. Look for her signature on the back of the menu or, if you’re really lucky, greet her in person if she’s there making the welcoming rounds.

Fine dining isn’t the only reason to visit Casa Ora. Humanitarian at heart, Isbelis and her family are dedicated to raising awareness and support for the local society in Venezuela throughout their current crisis. The Casa Ora’s team donates a part of their revenues to Fe y Algeria, a nonprofit organization supporting Venezuelan refugee families, which makes every dining or brunch experience a genuine feel-good moment on every level.
