Dinner and a show? That’s exactly what you get at The Mouth (20 Marcy Ave.), a vibrant new restaurant and bar in the heart of Williamsburg. Connected to the famed Brooklyn Art Haus, The Mouth features a fusion of Mediterranean flavors, craft cocktails, and the infectious energy of Cirkus Moxie for a blend of food and fun like you’ve never seen before.

With 70’s inspired decor (don’t miss your chance to get a pic with the big neon lips), and plenty of pop references, the Mouth is a culture fiend’s haven. This is reflected not only in their decor but their signature drinks—sip on the Shibuya Roll Call, boasting gin, melon, and yuzu, or the Pornstar, featuring Pride Vodka, Cava, passion fruit, vanilla and tangerine—to truly feel like you’re in a spinoff of the Rocky Horror Picture Show (but with great food, of course).

When you’ve had your fill, be sure to head right over to Brooklyn Art Haus to watch a slate of mesmerizing performances from performers like Aerialist extraordinaire Lisa Natoli, who defies the laws of physics with graceful twirls and flips high above the crowd, and The Brides, a pair that uses mime-like humor and mind-bending acrobatics to silently captivate the audience.

The public is invited to celebrate The Mouth's grand opening this Saturday, April 6th from 10am to 11:30pm with complimentary passed hors d'oeuvres, an all-day happy hour, live music, and more. Immerse yourself in a new creative atmosphere with Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, crafted cocktails, and a rotating art gallery.

RYNN: A Non-traditional Take on Thai

There are not 10, not 20, not 50, but a whopping 700 Thai restaurants in New York City. RYNN is doing something different.

There are not 10, not 20, not 50, but a whopping 700 Thai restaurants in New York City. A famous example of gastrodiplomacy, in which a country uses food as a means of globalizing and building international interest, Thai food in America is both lauded and criticized for its consistency. On one hand, it’s always good. On the other, every place is more or less the same. The arrival of RYNN, however, might just shake things up for the Thai scene. An innovative new restaurant in the East Village, RYNN is reimagining traditional Thai dishes for a culinary journey that aims to entrance Thai food aficionados and newcomers alike.

Strawberry salad, Li Tiang, Yum Geaw Tod

The concept behind RYNN, or "รินน์", posits the space not as a restaurant, but a vessel for creating memories. A quick look through their menu and it’s easy to see why—their offerings draw inspiration from cherished childhood experiences for bites that evoke nostalgia, yet are surprising enough to spark conversation. Take, for example, their Khao Soi Gai Tod. Typically served as a soup, the RYNN version forgoes broth for sautéed curried egg noodles alongside crispy chicken. Other changes include switching out classic green papaya salad (Som Tum) for a spicy strawberry one, and incorporating French techniques for a  syrupy Thai Tea Crème Brûlée. The star of the show, however, is their Banana Roti dessert. A twist on fried ice cream, this offering features butterfly pea coconut ice cream alongside a banana that is wrapped in roti and fried for a treat that hits crunchy, salty, and sweet.

Khao Soi Gai Tod (crispy chicken with sautéed curried egg noodles)

Banana Roti Dessert

Drinks at RYNN offer a similar experience—interesting twists such as a Glass of Grass (Pandan Infused Vodka, Lemongrass, Coconut juice, and Grass jelly) and the Kopitiam (Coconut toasted Espresso)—are served up along with more classic drinks, such as Satay, with its Turmeric-infused Rum and Cucumber cordial, and the elegant Sodalite, a Yakult Clarified Negroni. All pair well with both the dishes and the space’s loungelike interior. It’s the perfect place for date night, or a girls night—especially fitting since the restaurant is completely women-owned.

So if you’re craving Thai but don’t mind a twist, check out RYNN the next time you’re in the EV. They offer a lunch menu Monday to Sunday from 12pm – 3:30pm, and dinner from 5pm – 10pm.

For more information and to view the menu, check out @rynn.nyc or https://www.rynnnyc.com/

Simply Sensational Korean Tasting Menu at WANGBI

WANGBI is tucked away on the Mezzanine level of Antoya BBQ in Koreatown. Once you enter the sliding doors, you’re immediately transported to Korea with the authentic aesthetic and furthermore with the experience that Executive Chef Taewoo Kim creates where you feel you’re enjoying a meal in his hometown.

We started the meal with cocktails and opted for two crowd favorites, the Freshy, a refreshing mixture of Belvedere Vodka with lemongrass, strawberry, yuzu and ginger and the Lavender Fields, an effervescent combo of Bombay Sapphire Gin, pisco, grape, egg, lemon and the title ingredient of lavender. Both were well-balanced and a great kickoff for what would prove a very special meal. Should you visit and want wine, the list is curated by Corporate Wine Director, Joo Lee, who has previously worked at Eleven Madison Park and Saison in San Francisco.

The tasting menu, which is comprised of seven courses, began with Yukhoe, which was like a deconstructed steak tartare. The preparation gave the meat a smokiness that is not usually present for this raw dish. The recommendation from the chef is to combine all ingredients and eat on the seaweed wrapper, which gives it the crispy consistency the dish traditionally is lacking. The second dish, Bangeo, was a marinated yellowtail, where the blood orange flavors shown through.

What we learned from Chef Kim is that his dishes are always simple yet flavorful. We found that to be true for the Dak Kalguksu dish. He explained that he just used the chicken flavors, salt and water and that’s all it needed. The soup was just what the doctor ordered on this particularly rainy day.

Continuing to use other parts of the chicken, we moved on to Dak Gui and my guest and I both agreed this was the best chicken dish we ever had. The meat was dry-aged for two weeks in a simple collagen sauce and it was perfect.

Woodbae Galbi was the next dish and Chef Kim explained that Short Rib is a typical protein in Korean cuisine. This meet was dry-aged for 3 weeks and I would’ve licked the plate if I didn’t think it would be frowned upon. We opted for the golden osteria caviar upcharge because if you’re going to go to a tasting menu like this, you have to do it right. It did not disappoint.

The Shiska is another traditional pairing and was very rich with the uni upgrade. The dishes were oozing with flavor and we were glad the meal was winding down because we were definitely full after these dishes.

We ended on a sweet note with the Dagwasang, rice ice cream and traditional cookies. The ice cream with puffed rice reminded us of a cereal ice cream. It was a great delicate way to finish off the meal.

The counter can seat 13 people and is incredibly special for any occasion that is worth celebrating. The name of the restaurant is derived from the Korean word for “Queen” after all and that’s what you’ll feel like dining here due to the extraordinary level of service (shout out to Kevin!). The menu changes often depending on seasonal ingredients, so we’ll be back to try new dishes. For more information or to make a reservation, please visit https://wangbinyc.com/.

Day and Night at Festival

If you’re a freelancer looking for a different location to work from, Festival Cafe might be the prettiest. Located on 61st and 2nd, “NYC’s only farm-to-bar cocktail experience,” offers a “Workday Pass” starting at 12pm, which includes unlimited coffee or tea, and a lunch entree offering all for $30. On Saturday and Sunday you can buy two and get one free Espresso Martinis!

Just look at this place. Name a more gorge space to work from, I’ll wait. This is a remote worker’s paradise! If you’re a freelancer looking for a different location to work from, Festival Cafe might be the prettiest. Located on 61st and 2nd, “NYC’s only farm-to-bar cocktail experience,” offers a “Workday Pass” starting at 12pm, which includes unlimited coffee or tea, a lunch entree offering of soup, salad or what I opted for, flatbread, and a cocktail to close out your day, which to be honest, we all deserve a cocktail for surviving most of our workdays. All of this in addition to wifi and a soundtrack to your day (I would not take any calls from here!) for $30.

The Wild Mushroom, Lemon & Herb Ricotta Flatbread while flavorful, had a little bit of a kick to it, so I opted for the Truffled Potato, Cheddar, Red Onion, Black Pepper and Rosemary Flatbread, which was the exact flavor profile I wanted. This was a huge portion but perfect to snack on in between emails. You can honestly get any item though and you can’t go wrong, the food is exceptional here.

After work we tried the Espresso Martinis and were told that on Saturday and Sunday you can buy two and get one free! That is a steal in the city where nothing is free. My favorite version was the Vanilla Espresso Martini, is made with one of my favorite spirits, Mr. Black. It was so smooth and tasted like a dessert. My guest enjoyed the Grand Oaxacan Espresso Martini, made with Tequila, Grand Marnier and Nixta, which is a corn liquor. We had never had Nixta, but it was really tasty.

In addition to the Workday Pass and Espresso Martini Weekends, Festival has tons of promotions. They’re currently offering a weekly happy hour, half off wine bottles on Wednesday, Festival Fridays, which is a $20 bucket of beer and DJ, bottomless brunch on weekends for $30 and live music on Tuesday and Thursdays. They’ve even opened up their space to the community on Sundays from 5-7 with a reservation.

For more information on all of Festival Cafe is offering, or to book a reservation, please visit https://www.festivalcafenyc.com/.

NYJL 72nd Annual Winter Ball

The New York Junior League (NYJL) hosted its 72nd Annual Winter Ball, a black-tie event and the organization's greatest fundraiser, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Cipriani South Street, one of Manhattan's most spectacular event locations

The New York Junior League (NYJL) hosted its 72nd Annual Winter Ball, a black-tie event and the organization's greatest fundraiser, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Cipriani South Street, one of Manhattan's most spectacular event locations. This year's sold-out Winter Ball shattered attendance records and collected more over $700,000, due to generous donors who purchased tickets, corporate sponsorships, individual donations, and participated in a silent and live auction.

This year's Winter Ball celebrated recipients of the NYJL's highest accolades, the Outstanding Sustainer and Outstanding Volunteer Awards, as well as Humanitarian Award recipient Sarah Flint for her philanthropic efforts. Since 1952, the Winter Ball has helped collect critical funding for the NYJL's training and community activities while also bringing together volunteers, family, friends, and supporters for award giving ceremonies.

The evening began with a cocktail reception and silent auction, followed by a delicious three-course dinner, during which attendees watched the awards presentation and live auction. After dinner, guests indulged in sweets before dancing the night away to the strains of Elegant Music Group's The Midnight Project in the gorgeous waterfront backdrop of Cipriani South Street. This year's Winter Ball drew nearly 1,000 guests, including a record number of VIP Harriman Circle clients, to commemorate the NYJL's 123-year history of serving the New York City community.

The NYJL honored recipients of the Outstanding Sustainer and Outstanding Volunteer awards—reserved for women who represent a superior standard of excellence in volunteerism—at Winter Ball. These awards are the organization's highest distinctions. A. Gale Kroeger and Elizabeth Ann Timberman are the 2024 Outstanding Sustainers, and Mona Kelly Lopez, Moriah K. Lutz-Tveite, Susan Timmons Marks, Elizabeth Ann Beller Staryak, and Megan Zuckerman are the 2024 Outstanding Volunteers. These remarkable women are committed to leading by example, helping the communities of New York City and NYJL, and exhibiting the organization's basic principles.

In addition, the NYJL presented a Humanitarian Award to shoe designer Sarah Flint, the creator of her namesake line, in appreciation of her charitable work promoting inclusivity and uplifting women. The Sarah Flint brand will return a portion of its sales proceeds to the NYJL as a way of celebrating this accomplishment.

The dinner reached its climax with renowned auctioneer Sebastian Clarke from Heritage Auctions leading the live auction. Attendees eagerly bid on exclusive experiences and memorabilia, such as "Glamour in Gotham" (a unique Tiffany's flagship experience followed by an evening at The Metropolitan Opera Club), "Toi là! Je t'aime!" (a luxurious week-long stay in St. Barth with WIMCO Villas, Nocturne Luxury Villas Collection), "Luxury Meets the Links" (a stay at The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach with a chance to play at The Breakers Palm Beach and The Maidstone Club in East Hampton), and "Paradise Found" (a three-night stay at the Ocean Club, a Four Seasons Resort in the Bahamas for a family of four). The dinner ended with a captivating performance by violinist Shiann Rose, leading into the Dessert & Dancing segment of the evening.

“The NYJL has made an impact on the New York City community for over 123 years, with our Outstanding Sustainers and Outstanding Volunteers serving as key examples of our organization’s steadfast commitment to training and volunteerism. We are extremely grateful to our generous sponsors, donors, and attendees for supporting Winter Ball and the NYJL,” said NYJL President Serra Eken.

Corporate sponsors included Bloomberg Philanthropies, DíaGen AI, Hellman & Friedman, Merrill, Morgan Stanley, Polestar, Sheffield Haworth, and Solidea Capital. In-kind sponsors included ASD Gems, Beck Bags, Bow Bridge Blooms, Elegant Music Group, Hampton Water, Moët & Chandon, The Ocean Club, a Four Seasons Resort, and WIMCO Villas.

Proceeds from Winter Ball support the NYJL's community and advocacy work and leadership development.

Tanqueray and Chef Eric Adjepong Paint the Town Green with Damn Fancy Dinner Party

Chef Eric Chef Adjepong’s joins forces with Tanqueray for Damn Fancy Dinner Party that took place at a duplex in Greenwich Village.

Chef Eric Adjepong, Photo Credit: Deitch Pham LLC

On Chef Eric Chef Adjepong’s season of Top Chef, he had a Quickfire Challenge where he had to prepare a dish inspired by a cocktail and the knife he pulled was The Last Word (He won the challenge btw). So it seemed pretty apropos that he would join forces with Tanqueray for the Damn Fancy Dinner Party that took place at a duplex in Greenwich Village.

Attendees knew they arrived at the right place because a sea of green light spilled out onto the street outside the residence. Once inside, the space gave off Wicked vibes, stylishly decorated with a grand Tanqueray bar in the back. Mixologists from Dante’s were on hand to create four cocktails that paired with light bites Chef Eric Adjepong created for the evening. The inspiration of Damn Fancy was to come as you’re comfortable, but in a more upscale way. It’s like an elevated house party. To Chef Eric Adjepong’s point, there was an ice luge once you walked in!

Light bites for the night included the Brie, Vol-Au-Vents, brie cheese, caramelized onion, thyme and apricot jam pastry, paired with the Dirty Martini, Lamb Kofta skewers, with harissa and yogurt dip, paired with the Dry Martini, Lobster Arancini paired with the Negroni and last but not least, the Tartare Crostini with yellowtail, yuzu kosho aioli and sesame seed, paired with the Last Word cocktail.

For the cocktails, the classic Tanqueray London Dry Gin was used in the Dirty Martini, Tanqueray No. Ten for the Dry Martini, Tanqueray Rangpur Lime for the Last Word and Tanqueray Sevilla Orange for the Negroni, showing the versatility of the Tanqueray spirit offerings.

It was definitely a Damn Fancy party we will never forget. For more information on Tanqueray Gin, please visit, https://www.tanqueray.com/en-us.

Chill Vibes at Mr. Melo

Williamsburg's evening scene welcomed Mr. Melo at 61 Withers St., a new listening bar that seeks to make vinyl music more accessible and approachable to all.

Williamsburg's evening scene welcomed Mr. Melo at 61 Withers St., a new listening bar that seeks to make vinyl music more accessible and approachable to all. New Yorkers flocked to enjoy the space earlier this week, with a lively press preview featuring some of the city’s greatest foodies and influencers. The space, once Bar Beau, now stands as a distinctive listening bar with a sonically mindful design, adorned with wood paneling and premium speakers, setting the stage for immersive sound. The chic and inviting atmosphere of Mr. Melo provided the backdrop for an exploration of exceptional New Greek cuisine, complemented by innovative cocktails and a DJ-driven experience on the raised platform turned stage. The bar's commitment to sustainability and creativity extended to its cocktail offerings, introducing the concept of "compost" cocktails that swiftly became a crowd favorite. The inventive concoctions repurposed fresh ingredients into unique and flavorful drinks.

Among the standout compost cocktails being ordered was the imaginative "Baba Rita," a mesmerizing blend of smoked eggplant-infused tequila, agave, and lime. The infusion of smoky flavors and the citrusy notes create a refreshing and sophisticated cocktail that quickly won the hearts of the crowd. Other notable choices included the "Imperfect Manhattan," a well-balanced mix of rye, bourbon, dry and sweet vermouth, orange, Angostura bitters, and Luxardo cherry and the "Feta Brine Martini", crafted with Greek feta, olives, white vermouth, and Misguided vodka, this compost cocktail offered a savory and briny profile, challenging traditional notions of what a martini can be. The fusion of flavors add to the allure of Mr. Melo's beverage menu, which recently gained attention for their Tamarind Mate Cooler, a non-alcoholic masterpiece made with housemade chai-tamarind syrup and brewed yerba mate tea, inspired by co-owner Nik Vagenas's enchanting experiences in India, and available on tap with the option to add an alcohol of choice.

In addition to the crowd-favorite cocktails, Mr.Melo showcased an adventurous selection of dishes. The array of freshly made bites include House Made Zahatar potato chips accompanied by miso baba, spicy whipped feta, and curry hummus – a savory indulgence for the palate. The Pickle Plate offered a refreshing combination of seasonal pickled veggies served with a side of spicy tahini, providing a burst of tangy and savory flavor. The menu also showcased Smoked Mussel Toast, featuring smoked mussels, chili oil, labne, fresh herbs, and lemon zest, their Crispy Eggplant Sando, a vegetarian delight, featured crispy eggplant, whipped feta, arugula, fresh herbs, pickled onion, and house-made lacto schoug – a showcase layered flavors and contrasting textures and the Vegan Caesar, a plant-based masterpiece, consisted of chicory, greens, breadcrumbs, nooch yeast, capers, and toum, offering a satisfying and flavorful alternative. The culinary journey of the evening concluded with filling Drunk Greek Fries!

The evening was a success, with guests dancing to the curated music in the sleek back room, creating a lively and immersive atmosphere. As a listening bar, Mr. Melo seeks to serve as an ideal destination for friends and couples alike, offering a perfect blend of immersive music, delicious food, and unique drinks. Gori Delivers Luxurious Omakase Experience at Anto Korean Steakhouse

Perched on the 2nd floor of Anto Korean Steakhouse in Midtown East, Gori is a 10 course omakase experience from the imaginative mind of Executive Chef Jeong Muk Kim that changes daily.

Ginger Sour and Spicy Margarita

Perched on the 2nd floor of Anto Korean Steakhouse in Midtown East, Gori is a 10 course omakase experience from the imaginative mind of Executive Chef Jeong Muk Kim that changes daily. Before Gori, Chef Jeong-Muk was Executive Chef at MYOMI in Seoul where the restaurant received a Michelin star during his tenure there. Now Chef Jeong-Muk uses his skills providing an unique experience to diners at Gori.

We began our dining experience with cocktails instead of opting for the wine pairing, since the Ginger Sour and Spicy Margarita sounded too good to pass up. Both cocktails had an innovative twist, the Ginger Sour with Hanrabong honey and the Spicy Margarita with gochujang and purple carrot.

While sipping on our cocktails, we were presented with the ingredients for our meal in a Cartier box! Talk about a luxurious dining experience. This presentation really set the tone for the level of quality and service we received over the course of the evening. Our first course was a Truffle Mushroom Pancake, more of a taco than a pancake, the flavors of umami were really prominent due to the mushroom and truffle. Moving then to a more fresh and seafood forward bite, the Dungeness Crab course had uni right on top and the memorable presentation on a crab shell.

One of my favorite dishes, the Lettuce Wrapped Pork Belly, was wrapped up like a present with rich and hearty flavors of pork in a small bite.

Eel preparation

Everything was prepared either at the back table like a surgery, where the staff used tweezers to place the accoutrements in a very precise manner, or right in front of you on the grills or with a torch, like with the Freshwater Eel dish.

The eel was another filling dish thanks to the tri-color rice and perilla seed glaze. Then liquid nitrogen created another table-side show with the Hamachi Mulwhe dish. My favorite dish of the night was the Hudson Valley Aged Duck, presented to the table before being cut up into individual portions. It was served with actual caramel and after having that savory and sweet preparation, I never want to have it another way! The Cornish Hen noodle soup was a perfect palate cleanser and appropriately warm dish for the season. The hen and abalone made it an elevated version of a chicken noodle soup.

The Korean Beef Wagyu was cooked perfectly and did not disappoint. The last savory dish, Uni Bapsang, was presented before being prepared into the highest quality rice dish you’ve ever had with Hokkaido uni, pickled ramp and banchan. By the end of the dinner, you are pretty full but you have to save room for the dessert. The Semifreddo was not only beautiful, but the flavors melded perfectly together.

Gori is perfect for a date, a business dinner, or to impress family members who are in from out of town, but always for an occasion as it’s that special. I cannot sing the praises of this dinner experience enough. For more information or to make a reservation of your own, please visit https://www.anto.com/reservations/.
