ByHeart’s VIP Mini Mart Pop-Up
From May 16–18 in Brooklyn, parenting got a powerful upgrade. At the heart of Greenpoint, ByHeart — the next-generation infant nutrition company — unveiled its latest innovation: the Anywhere Pack
New parenthood is filled with surprises—and not always the fun kind. Whether it’s a forgotten bottle or a meltdown at baggage claim, traveling with a baby isn’t easy. From May 16–18 in Brooklyn, parenting got a powerful upgrade. At the heart of Greenpoint, ByHeart — the next-generation infant nutrition company — unveiled its latest innovation: the Anywhere Pack, the first and only whole-milk infant formula in a single-serve, ready-to-mix format. To celebrate, the company hosted an exclusive Mini Mart—Made ByHeart pop-up, giving parents a first look at this revolutionary product and a much-deserved dose of joy, convenience, and community.
Held at 41 Norman Avenue, the Mini Mart transformed an industrial space into a whimsical, bodega-inspired experience designed specifically for modern parenthood. But this wasn’t your average product launch — it was a love letter to life’s messiest, most beautiful moments on-the-go.
Guests were treated to baby passport photo booths, a stroller concierge, and a chance to win big through scratch-off tickets, with prizes like 100,000 travel miles. A live DJ, mocktails, massages, and custom floral bouquets added to the atmosphere, while families picked up generous freebies from ByHeart and their favorite brand partners.
Now officially launched, the Anywhere Pack retails for $19.99 per box, with 14 single-serve, 4-ounce packets made with ByHeart’s patented protein blend—crafted from certified organic, grass-fed whole milk and designed to be the closest formula to breast milk on the market. No measuring. No scoops. No stress. Just grab, shake, and feed. Parents at the event praised the innovation as “the best thing since sliced bread.”
Co-founders Mia Funt and Ron Belldegrun were on-site to share how the Anywhere Pack came to life and how it reflects ByHeart’s bigger vision of redefining infant nutrition for real-life parenting. In the spirit of supporting families beyond the bottle, they also launched the Mom Miles Fund — an initiative giving away 1 million airline miles to parents of 2025 babies.
Applications are open through May 31, and parents can apply here:

Saturday, May 17: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

With every thoughtful touch — from massages and mocktails to practical tools like the Anywhere Pack — the Mini Mart delivered a rare moment of ease and celebration for parents. More than just a pop-up, it was a vibrant reminder that while parenting may not always be easy, the support behind it absolutely can be.
Baba Cool: A hidden gem in Fort Greene
Whether it's pre-theater dining near BAM or a relaxed spot to unwind after exploring Fort Greene Park, baba cool delivers. Just around the corner from Brooklyn's cultural landmarks, the new location offers spacious indoor and outdoor seating, perfect for post-event drinks, casual brunch, or hosting private events.
What started as a cozy café has matured into a multi-faceted space where the vibe shifts effortlessly from day to night. Whether you’re popping in for a morning cappuccino or settling in for a glass of natural wine and small plates with friends, Baba Cool in Fort Greene retains the same easygoing charm that made it a local staple. Its new, larger space—just steps from Fort Greene Park and the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM)—features roomy indoor and outdoor seating, ideal for anything from brunch with a laptop to post-theater cocktails.
By day, Baba Cool is an oasis of vibrant, health-conscious fare. The café menu focuses on fresh, vegetable-forward dishes like crisp salads, hearty bowls, and nourishing brunch favorites that have become synonymous with Brooklyn’s food scene. Coffee culture is still at the heart of the experience, but the kitchen—helmed by Chef Hector Lugo—brings elevated simplicity to the table with dishes like baby kale salad with manchego and almonds, and baba fries seasoned with manchego, scallions, and cayenne mayo.
As the sun sets, Baba Cool subtly transforms. Lights dim, music hums, and the dinner menu emerges with bold, shareable dishes perfect for gathering over drinks. Small plates like shrimp toast with fennel confit and baby beets with preserved lemon yogurt are matched by satisfying mains such as crispy chicken with dijonnaise and the comforting “Drunken Gabi,” a rice noodle bowl packed with broccolini, cabbage, and green goddess dressing.
Even dessert gets its moment with a rich, sea salt–topped olive oil chocolate mousse. Whether you’re winding down after a stroll in Fort Greene Park or gathering with friends for Happy Hour, the energy is welcoming and unpretentious.
But the soul of Baba Cool really lies in its owner, Gabriella Mann. A Brooklyn resident with a background behind the bar, Gabriella brings warmth, inclusivity, and attention to detail to every aspect of her business. Baba Cool isn’t just a place to eat and drink—it’s a gathering space designed for connection, joy, and community. Gabriella’s latest venture, wine bar BABA on Withers in Williamsburg, shares the same ethos, proof of her growing legacy in New York’s hospitality scene.
Whether it’s a weekend brunch, an intimate dinner, or a casual drink with friends, Baba Cool fits the moment. With a seasonal menu, full bar, and cozy yet modern ambiance, it offers the rare kind of space where anyone—locals and newcomers alike—can feel like a regular.

The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) proudly presents the 25th anniversary of MAD About Jewelry, its annual benefit exhibition and sale spotlighting one-of-a-kind, artist-made jewelry. Taking place from May 3 to 7, this landmark edition will feature 50 visionary artists from 23 countries, offering an extraordinary selection of wearable art that redefines the boundaries of contemporary jewelry design.
The week-long celebration kicks off with an exclusive Opening Benefit Brunch on Saturday, May 3, honoring Frank Everett, Vice Chairman for Jewelry at Sotheby’s. A respected voice in the luxury world, Everett’s career spans iconic houses including Bulgari, Tiffany & Co., and Harry Winston. He’s also known for his popular video series Frank’s Files, which has captivated jewelry lovers worldwide. Brunch guests will enjoy a first look at the collection before the formal tribute to Everett takes place at Robert, the museum’s restaurant overlooking Columbus Circle.
Proceeds from the event will support MAD’s mission to champion contemporary makers and advance the fields of art, craft, and design.
This year’s roster of artists showcases bold experimentation, cultural storytelling, and sustainable innovation:
Xinyi Chen (UK) transforms electronic waste into “Artificial Intelligems,” merging digital debris with metalsmithing.
Valeria Molinari (Italy) creates Murano glass and resin pieces inspired by the board game backgammon.
Joana Correia (Portugal) embraces nature’s imperfection using organic materials like orange peel and silk cocoons.
Cano Jewelry (Colombia) draws on over a century of tradition, preserving pre-Colombian goldsmithing in modern forms.
Yuka Taniai (Japan) sculpts ethereal designs from acrylic and metal to reflect light, time, and atmospheric elements.
Inca Starzinsky (UK) paints sculptural brass and stainless steel jewelry that bridges graphic design and wearable color.
KINRADEN (Denmark), founded by architect Sarah Emilie Müllertz, crafts sustainable jewelry using recycled gold and FSC-certified blackwood.
Monies (Denmark), celebrating 50 years of design, continues to push the boundaries with bold, raw-material-driven statement pieces.
A highlight of the program is the Acquisition Prize, awarded annually to an artist whose work will be added to MAD’s permanent collection—underscoring the museum’s commitment to preserving groundbreaking design for future generations.
“For 25 years, MAD About Jewelry has been a beacon of creativity, ingenuity, and community,” said Tim Rodgers, MAD’s Nanette L. Laitman Director. “This event not only celebrates exceptional artistry but also supports the Museum’s exhibitions and educational initiatives. We’re deeply grateful to the artists, collectors, and supporters who continue to make this momentous event possible.”
Attendees can shop necklaces, earrings, rings, brooches, and bracelets in a range of materials, from precious metals to recycled and natural elements—each piece offering a distinct cultural perspective. More than just a shopping event, MAD About Jewelry is a rare opportunity to meet the makers and engage directly with the stories behind their work.
MAD remains the only American museum with a dedicated gallery for both temporary and permanent exhibitions of contemporary and studio jewelry, reinforcing its legacy as a leader in the presentation and preservation of jewelry as an art form.

Attending the New York Junior League’s “Savor the Spring: A Night at the Museum” on April 26, 2025, was a vibrant evening of wine, food, and community at the historic Astor House. The event was a celebration of New York’s museum culture, brought to life through immersive design, curated wine pairings, and culinary experiences inspired by the city’s most iconic institutions.
From the moment guests entered the venue, each room transported them into a different museum-inspired world. Whether it was the tranquil beauty of a gallery space or the historic charm of a cultural exhibit, the atmosphere was thoughtfully curated to stimulate both the senses and the imagination. The NYJL partnered with Manhattan Wine Company to offer a variety of exquisite wines, each thoughtfully matched to its corresponding themed room, creating a tasting journey through art and history.
The food offerings were just as impressive, with dishes crafted by standout local chefs. One of the evening’s highlights was the sushi and Japanese small bites presented by Ichiban Japanese Catering, whose menu brought refined flavors and elegant presentation to the event. Guests raved about the freshness and artistry of each dish, which paired beautifully with the curated wine selections. Alongside the wine, expertly mixed cocktails from local bartending talents elevated the experience further.
Guests who opted for the VIP package received early access to the event and enjoyed a more intimate setting for mingling, including a reserved lounge area and special VIP bites and beverages. The gift bags were also a treat—packed with luxury items from SkinSpirit, Brashley Vineyards, and more.
This year was especially exciting, as the event raised over $136,000—an increase of $11,000 from last year’s total of $125,000. The strong turnout and enthusiastic support underscored the community’s dedication to NYJL’s mission of improving the lives of women and children across New York City. Proceeds from the evening directly fund the organization’s many community programs and initiatives. Guests also had the opportunity to participate in both silent and live auctions, bidding on items like luxury vacations, beauty treatments, and designer goods.
The energy throughout the evening was warm and inspiring. Conversations flowed as effortlessly as the wine, and the room buzzed with a shared appreciation for community engagement and cultural celebration. The NYJL once again demonstrated its unique ability to blend purpose with pleasure, creating a night that was not only fun but deeply meaningful.

Andy Cohen and Melanie Hamrick Host YAGP Gala
Youth America Grand Prix World’s Largest Ballet Scholarship Competition. 2025 Stars of Today Meet the Stars of Tomorrow Gala
On April 29, 2025, the Youth America Grand Prix Gala—Stars of Today Meet the Stars of Tomorrow—took center stage at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, marking the world’s largest ballet scholarship competition.
Hosted by Andy Cohen and Melanie Hamrick, with honoree Sarah Hoover and gala chairs Marcella Guarino Hymowitz and Maria Cristina Anzola, the evening drew a star-studded crowd including Amy Astley, Candace Bushnell, Chelsea Clinton, Zac Posen, Rebecca Hessel Cohen, Lucas Jagger, Colby Mugrabi, and Michelle Ochs.
Guests were treated to breathtaking performances by the Paris Opera Ballet, The Stuttgart Ballet, Ballet Dortmund, the ABT Studio Company, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and more.
“Hello New York City! Hello ballet fans! I was called the Barysnikov of Bravo tonight, I'm going to keep that! I'm changing my Instagram bio immediately”, said Television personality and producer Andy Cohen as he welcomed the Alice Tully Hall Lincoln Center audience to the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) Stars of Today Meet the Stars of Tomorrow Gala. “How appropriate we are here on International Dance Day!” His co-host for the evening, former American Ballet Theatre dancer and YAGP alumna Melanie Hamrick, replied “What better way to celebrate than with the amazing dancers you'll see here tonight, and by supporting the world’s largest ballet scholarship foundation! This is a full circle moment for me. As a young student, I was in the first YAGP Gala 26 years ago, and now, here I am on stage again.”
Harrison Ball, Zach Posen [BFA Photos]
Andy shared “YAGP is a remarkable organization, and it's in its 26th year, led by their amazing founders Larissa and Gennadi Saveliev. This season, YAGP saw 15,000 young dancers from over 80 countries audition, with 2,000 of them competing at the YAGP's Finals in Tampa last week. These are truly the stars of tomorrow, living their dream. Tonight you'll see some of those young dancers, as well as current ballet stars, from the best companies in the world, who excelled and got their start with YAGP.”

A Gala dinner followed the performance, sponsored by Oscar de la Renta and Bucherer Fine Jewellery, chaired by Marcella Guarino Hymowitz and Maria Cristina Anzola (with her granddaughter, both in marabou feather boas), with a committee that included Julia Arnhold, Paul Arnhold and Wes Gordon, Janna Bullock, Chelsea Clinton (who came with her two children), Rebecca Hessel Cohen, Courtney Davis, Aly Gradone, Melanie Hamrick, Lilli Hymowitz, Lindsay Kraus, Kamie Lightburn, Colby Mugrabi, Grace Pomeranc, Lilah Ramzi, Emily Reifel, Priya Shukla, Daniela W. Tisch, Barbara Tober, Virginia Tomenson, Lesley Thompson Vecsler, and Lina Wallach.
Candace Bushnell [BFA Photos]
“Larissa Saveliev, you are a force in the ballet world,” said Marcella. “You bring together all this ballet talent for such a special evening, but beyond that, you give dancers a platform and you create opportunities!” She continued, “Maria Cristina Anzola and I want to take a moment to thank our honoree of this evening, Sarah Hoover. Sarah is devoted to ballet and the arts. She co-founded ABT’s Accelerator Committee and fundraises for multiple dance organizations including Twyla Tharp's Diamond Jubilee tour, and is a patron of New York City Ballet. Sarah is also an author; her debut memoir, The Motherload, was published by Simon and Schuster this past January, and was an immediate bestseller. She is currently in the middle of her international book tour but took time away to be here tonight to celebrate many of her dancer friends and organizations she holds dear to her. Sarah, I am proud to call you a friend.”
“This is an incredible honor by such a meaningful organization to the world of dance”, said Sarah. “I want to explain how deep my love of dance is. As a young girl growing up in Indiana, I did not have a ton of access to culture. But I did have incredible dance training and I went to summer programs at ABT and elsewhere. I remember the impact of watching Glass Pieces, a Jerome Robbins ballet with music by Philip Glass. It was totally different than anything I'd ever seen. It changed the trajectory of my life; where I would live and what I would be dedicated to doing. I see dancers and ballet as showing us a more empathetic and expansive way forward in the world, and for that they are my idols forever.”

Decorating the room were custom ballet slippers as part of YAGP’s Pointe Project, designed by Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, A-Morir Studio, Attersee, Theory, DELPHINE, Fer Da Silva, Hill House Home, LoveShack Fancy!, Alexandre Birman, Alice and Olivia, Galvan London, Helmut Lang, Herve Leger, Libby Klein, Silvia Tcherassi, and TWP Clothing. Many of the designers were in attendance. The pointe shoes are up for auction until May 1st at 12pm, with 100% of proceeds supporting YAGP’s ongoing scholarship efforts. The evening also featured a World Premiere choreographed and performed by Isaiah Day (Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater), with an original composition and live musical performance by Emmy-nominated pianist and composer, Matthew Whitaker. Day was recognized as one of two YAGP 2025 Emerging Choreographers, along with Chicago-based Hanna Brictson, whose piece Q had its World Premiere at the YAGP 2025 Gala.
The YAGP International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), featuring 25 young dancers selected from global YAGP auditions, presented the U.S. Premiere of an excerpt from PUPO by acclaimed Italian choreographer Sofia Nappi.
A highlight of the program included the winners of the YAGP 2025 international ballet competition, sharing the stage with their ballet idols in a grand performance to bring the season to a close.

About Youth America Grand Prix
Youth America Grand Prix is the largest global network of dance. YAGP fulfills its mission of dance education through scholarship auditions, master classes, alumni services, performances, and education. Over the past 26 years, $5 million has been awarded in scholarships to the world’s leading dance schools, with up to $500,000 now awarded annually. Since YAGP’s founding in 1999, over 300,000 young dancers – ages 9 to 19 – of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds have participated in YAGP's international workshops, audition classes, and dance awareness events. This season, 15,000 talented young dancers from 86 countries on 5 continents auditioned all over the world for a spot in the YAGP Finals. Many of those winners have the one-in-a-lifetime chance to share a stage with their idols, today’s biggest ballet stars, on stage at Lincoln Center. 500 YAGP alumni are now dancing with 100 professional companies around the world, including American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Boston Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, The Royal Ballet, Mariinsky Ballet and many others. Over 100 of these alumni are soloists and Principal Dancers.
In 2019 during the COVID-19 pandemic, YAGP was the first dance organization to present entirely virtual programming, offering masterclasses and workshops as well as virtual auditions to complete the YAGP season.
In 2022, when the war in Ukraine began, YAGP worked quickly to relocate dance students from Ukraine and place them in YAGP partner schools in Europe and the United States to safely continue their dance training. To date, YAGP’s Ukraine Relief campaign has placed over 200 dancers in safety and on a path to a professional career in dance.
In 2023, YAGP reinstated its Job Fair, now held bi-annually in Europe at The Stuttgart Ballet’s John Cranko School in Germany and in America at Nashville Ballet.
In 2024, YAGP celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a spectacular festival of dance at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. As part of the anniversary celebrations, 353 young dancers gathered at New York City’s iconic Plaza Hotel to set a Guinness World Record for “Most Dancers En Pointe,” and the United States Senate officially recognized Youth America Grand Prix as America’s National Youth Dance Competition.
Dos Tres Brings Authentic Mexican Cuisine Just Below the High Line
Dos Tres is an authentic Mexican concept from Marco Britti, the restaurateur behind Calle Dao and Mareluna and Executive Chef Henry Zamora from The Bazaar and French Laundry. The expansive 2,700 square foot space hosts happy hour, brunch and soon to offer lunch.
Photo courtesy of Create & Align
As someone who has lived in the city for a very long time, I can attest that good dining options west of 8th Avenue are hard to come by. That’s why I was so excited to hear about Dos Tres opening on the corner of 10th avenue and, you guessed it, 23rd Street.
The authentic Mexican concept from Marco Britti, the restaurateur behind Calle Dao and Mareluna, has tapped Executive Chef Henry Zamora from The Bazaar and French Laundry, to lead the charge for this expansive 2,700 square foot space.
We checked out the space for happy hour, which is currently being offered everyday from 12pm-7pm, including brunch (lunch service will begin in April)! Since we were in a Mexican restaurant, we had to try the margarita and for $10, you can get a flavored on. I opted for the mango variety and was happy with my choice. A regular margarita, beer, wine or well drinks will all run you $9.
We then moved onto sharable plates and tried a very solid guacamole ($12), chicken and cheese flautas ($12) and crispy wings ($12), which you wouldn’t necessarily associate with this type of concept, but with the flavorful seasoning, fit perfectly into the mix. The dishes were colorfully displayed, so not only were we satiated but it also made for great photos!
We’ve proven Dos Tres is perfect for happy hour, but are excited to go back and try more of the menu from this A-list team. When it’s not happy hour, menu highlights include signature tacos like Birria and Carnitas, and standout entrées like Enchiladas Verdes and Mexican Paella. Signature cocktails are also available, curated by Joy & Libation & Co, and tequila enthusiasts have the option to try flights of the restaurant’s offerings.
Photo Courtesy of Create & Align
Dos Tres is a great space for gathering with friends, family and we’ve even seen dating events happen here! We’re excited to see what they have up their sleeve for Cinco de Mayo, even though we’re well aware that is an Americanized celebration! For more information on Dos Tres, please visit https://www.instagram.com/Dostresnyc.

"We created Amber & Opal to be more than just a whiskey—it’s a celebration of community, inclusivity, and the golden moments we share with loved ones," said Ja Rule. Li, and Noreen Okarter, recognized for their commitment to the organization’s mission and impact on the community.
A highlight of the evening was a dynamic dance performance by the Harlem School of the Arts, NYJL’s 2024-2025 Community Improvement Project (CIP) partner. The entertainment continued with a highly anticipated live auction led by Erin Ward of Star Benefit Auctions, where guests bid on exclusive experiences such as a luxury stay in St. Barth, a wellness retreat at Canyon Ranch, and a Ferrari test drive experience in Modena, Italy.
As the evening progressed, attendees enjoyed a dazzling waterfront setting, indulging in fine dining, desserts, and dancing to live music from The Midnight Project.
“Winter Ball continues to be a celebration of the NYJL’s deep commitment to the New York City community and the incredible women who make our work possible,” said NYJL President Jeri Powell. “We are profoundly grateful for the support we received this evening, which will help us continue to foster leadership, amplify our impact, and create meaningful change throughout our city.”
The event was made possible by the generosity of corporate sponsors such as Bloomberg Philanthropies, Morgan Stanley, and Marsh McLennan Agency, alongside numerous in-kind sponsors.
Proceeds from the Winter Ball will directly support the NYJL’s advocacy efforts, community outreach programs, and leadership development initiatives. Since 1901, the NYJL has been a driving force for change, mobilizing over 2,500 volunteers to address New York City’s most pressing socioeconomic challenges.

Ashley Bouder Bids Farewell to New York City Ballet with a Triumphant Final Bow
Beloved Ashley Bouder took her final bow at New York City Ballet, bringing to a close a remarkable 25-year career with the Company, including two decades as a principal dancer.
After an extraordinary 25-year career with New York City Ballet—20 of them as a principal dancer—Ashley Bouder took her final bow, closing a chapter that has shaped two generations of dancers and captivated audiences worldwide.
Ashley Bouder, Peter de Florio
For her farewell performance, Bouder returned to the role of the Firebird, which she first performed in 2001. The stage became a scene of pure emotion as she received five curtain calls, each wave of applause a tribute to her legacy. As dancers, the conductor, and the first violinist of NYCB stepped forward to present her with flowers, a cascade of bouquets grew at her feet. But it was the final gesture that brought the house to tears—her 8-year-old daughter, Violet de Florio, dressed in red to match Bouder’s Firebird costume, delivered the last bouquet.
“If you weren’t crying with me during the performance, you were by then,” Bouder said.
Ashley Bouder
Following the emotional farewell, Bouder and over 100 friends and colleagues gathered at Bowlero in Times Square, where she swapped her pointe shoes for bowling shoes in a private celebration. The evening also marked a new beginning: Bouder announced that her organization, Ashley Bouder Arts, dedicated to supporting women choreographers and commissioning new works, has already raised nearly half a million dollars.
Peter de Florio, Vincent Paradiso, Chris Coffee, Stephen Hanna
Born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Bouder trained at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet under Marcia Dale Weary before joining the School of American Ballet in 1999. She became an NYCB apprentice in 2000, joined the corps de ballet later that year, was promoted to soloist in 2004, and became a principal dancer in 2005. Her brilliance, strength, and artistry have defined her career, leaving an indelible mark on the company and the world of ballet.

While this was Bouder’s final curtain call at NYCB, her impact on the dance world is far from over.

Anya Gillinson’s Dreaming in Russian: A Night of Reflection and Celebration in New York
Elizabeth Segerstrom opened her New York residence, filled with white orchids, to celebrate Anya Gillinson's new memoir, Dreaming in Russian, a fiercely honest autobiography.
In a setting as elegant as the story it honored, Elizabeth Segerstrom welcomed guests into her orchid-filled New York residence to celebrate the launch of Dreaming in Russian, Anya Gillinson’s fiercely honest and deeply personal memoir. With her husband, Sir Clive Gillinson, Executive and Artistic Director of Carnegie Hall, by her side—and much of haute New York in attendance—Anya engaged in a moving conversation with renowned writer Andrew Solomon. Together, they explored her journey from the shadow of the Soviet regime to a new life in America, touching on themes of survival, reinvention, and love.
William Fleischer, Grimanesa Amoros, Shammiel Fleischer-Amoros
Gillinson’s memoir recounts the contradictions of Soviet life, the brutal murder of her father, her family’s emigration to New York, and, ultimately, the happiness she found in her marriage. It is a book as much about personal history as it is about cultural identity, feminism, and the complexities of being Russian in a changing world.
Distinguished guests, including Prosper Assouline, Candace Bushnell, Kip Forbes, Marifé Hernández and Joel Bell, Denise Rich, Barbara Tober, and Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia, joined the author’s mother, celebrated concert pianist Galina Novikova, in toasting her achievement.
Anya Gillinson
Reflecting on her father’s legacy, Gillinson shared:
“My father lived in the Soviet Union, a country of hypocrisy and lies. But he wasn’t secretive. He was open and honest—about being Jewish, at a time when people were hiding it. He lived as we do here in the West, and it was his dream to come to America. That dream never became reality. My father, shielding my mother, was killed at 47. I was 13. Our life as we knew it was over. I always wanted to tell his story and write this book. But this book is more than just that. It’s about my social observations on immigrating to America, which looked very different than what we see on TV now. It’s about my mother. It’s about feminism versus femininity. It’s about being Russian.”
Andrew Solomon praised Gillinson’s ability to translate profound personal experiences into universal truths, remarking:
Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia, Christopher Forbes, Candace Bushnell, Elizabeth Segerstrom
“This book captures the passion with which it was written—the vision and the ability to draw philosophical extrudes out of personal experience.”
Galina Novikova, Marife Hernandez, Anya Gillinson, Joel Bell
Published by Skyhorse, Dreaming in Russian is now available in bookstores and online. For more information, visit Anya Gillinson’s website.

Echoes of Exile: Pianist Teodor Doré’s Stirring Pre-Carnegie Hall Concert in Chelsea
Pianist Teodor Doré and his ensemble transported an intimate Chelsea audience through a deeply evocative chamber concert at the loft of fellow pianist and friend, Jonathan DePeri.
Pianist Teodor Doré and his ensemble transported an intimate Chelsea audience through a deeply evocative chamber concert at the loft of fellow pianist and friend, Jonathan DePeri. The evening’s program explored themes of exile, displacement, and longing for one’s homeland—an especially personal narrative for the performers.
Teodor Doré ,Viktoriya Pakhomova
Doré, a Crimean-born pianist now living in exile, was joined by an ensemble of equally displaced musicians: Ukrainian soprano Anastasiya Roytman, Belarusian violinist Taisiya Losmakova, and Grammy-nominated Russian cellist Sergey Antonov. Together, they delivered a performance that resonated with both historical significance and raw emotional depth.
A standing-room-only crowd of over 80 guests filled the double-height music room and balcony, immersing themselves in a program that featured works by Sergei Rachmaninoff alongside Doré’s own compositions. A highlight of the evening was the world premiere of Doré’s newly orchestrated Suite in D Minor, a project undertaken with the approval and encouragement of Rachmaninoff’s great-granddaughter, Alexandra Conus Rachmaninoff.
"It is a big responsibility to touch this heritage," Doré reflected. "But music unites us."
Edgar Batista, Maurice Batista, Diane Batista, Teodor
Doré’s personal journey mirrors that of Rachmaninoff, both artists forced to leave their homelands due to political upheaval. This concert served as a prelude to his highly anticipated, sold-out Carnegie Hall debut on January 29, further solidifying his place in the classical music world.
Among the distinguished guests in attendance were Yanna Avis, Edgar Batista, Nora Coblence, Katherine Crockett, Mark Domino, Cornelius Escaravage, Ryan Nash, Antonia Franceschi, James Frey, Fiona Eltz, Jacqueline Garrett, Liecie Hollis, Ann Dexter-Jones, Juan Montoya, Catherine Orentreich, Alexandra Penney, Jean Park, Jerome Rose, Marie-Monique Steckel, The Met Museum’s Bradley Strauchen-Scherer, and Barbara Tober, along with the pianist’s wife, Viktoriya Pakhomova.
David Hung, Maria Meshcherskaya
Hayk Arsenyan, Vard Stepanyan
Doré’s forthcoming seventh album, Rachmaninoff Variations, promises to be a deeply personal exploration of exile and artistic resilience, featuring a selection of Rachmaninoff’s works interwoven with readings from letters written by exiles and excerpts from the composer’s personal diary.
“Having lost my homeland, I lost myself,” Rachmaninoff once lamented. “The exile, who has lost his musical roots, traditions, and native soil, has no desire to create. No other consolation remains except for the unbreakable silence of undisturbed memories.”
Mike Miro, Jodie Lichtenstein
Through his music, Doré ensures that silence never takes hold.

Sicily Osteria Serves Up Authentic Italian Fare on Restaurant Row
New York City is home to Sicily Osteria, an authentic Sicilian restaurant in the heart of Times Square on Restaurant Row. Owner and President, Robert Malta, is not new to the restaurant scene, with other locations under his belt/ the New York City Restaurant Group like Bocca di Bacco, Arte Cafe and more, this is the first time he’s gone back to his roots and featured a restaurant focused on Sicilian cuisine.
Since going to Sicily last year, finding a way to feed my craving of Sicilian culture without taking a flight has been top of mind. As one of the food capitals of the world, I am grateful that New York City is home to Sicily Osteria, an authentic Sicilian restaurant in the heart of Times Square on Restaurant Row. Owner and President, Robert Malta, is not new to the restaurant scene, with other locations under his belt like Bocca di Bacco, Arte Cafe and more. Sicily Osteria is, however, the first time he’s gone back to his roots and featured a restaurant focused on Sicilian cuisine.
Walking into the Sicily Osteria space, you’re able to pretend that it isn’t 20 degrees outside. The warm and inviting atmosphere is infectious, and on purpose. Malta has actual photos of his family adorning the walls. The space is also tremendous. In addition to a weather protected patio area and interior, there is an entire 2nd story and outdoor space that is also weather protected, so it’s safe to say there is space for a party or two.
In terms of what to order, you can’t really go wrong here. What I was very excited about was that pannelle, an Italian street food snack made out of chickpea and flour that I grew addicted to in Sicily, was on the menu! This is not a typical item on an Italian menu in the states and the little pillows of dough were a great way to start off our meal. We also received rolls in a cast iron pan that did not last long enough to dip in the Pat LaFrieda wagyu meatballs sauce. Served with ricotta on top, the dish was definitely cooked with love. Pasta dishes were too difficult to choose between, but the Spaghetti Chitarra, a mixture of crab, pistachio, lemon, cream and marjoram, is another dish that you don’t see everyday and one that should not be missed!
A entree so popular that it is outlined on the menu, is the Pollo Parmigiana, or chicken parm. The portions here are extremely generous so count on having leftovers for the next day or two. We also had to save room for dessert, considering Pastry Chef Alessandro Duerto from Sweet Rehab is now at the helm. We opted for the Limone Di Sicilia, shaped like a lemon but filled with lemon prepared all the ways. It was a refreshing way to end our meal.
Sicily Osteria is a perfect place to dine if you’re looking to evoke Sicilian vibes without hopping on a flight. They also offer a three course lunch prix fixe if you’re looking to dine on a budget.

Step Into a Surreal World: Luna Luna at The Shed
Few experiences in New York City blend art, nostalgia, and pure imagination as effortlessly as Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy at The Shed
Few experiences in New York City blend art, nostalgia, and pure imagination as effortlessly as Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy at The Shed. Originally conceived in 1987 as an artistic amusement park, Luna Luna was a groundbreaking collaboration featuring works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Salvador Dalí, Keith Haring, David Hockney, and other legendary artists. After being lost to history for decades, this magical art carnival has finally returned, and after experiencing it firsthand, I can say with certainty—it’s not to be missed.
What makes Luna Luna so special is how it comes to life. This isn’t a typical art exhibition where you simply observe from a distance—it’s a world to explore. The moment I stepped inside, I felt like I had wandered into a living dream, where towering sculptures, vibrant murals, and hand-painted rides surrounded me. Every installation is interactive and immersive, inviting visitors of all ages to engage, play, and rediscover their sense of wonder.
One of the best parts? Luna Luna is fantastic for kids, too. Unlike traditional art exhibits where little ones are often asked to look but not touch, this experience encourages exploration and hands-on fun. Whether it’s stepping inside a hand-painted carousel, admiring neon-lit tunnels, or wandering through surrealist attractions, children (and adults alike) will be completely captivated by the magic.
This is an experience that sparks creativity, joy, and curiosity in a way that few exhibits can. Whether you’re an art lover, a parent looking for something unique to do with the family, or simply someone in search of an unforgettable escape, Luna Luna is an absolute must-see.
The event has been extended due to overwhelming demand and will now conclude its celebrated run on March 16, 2025. Tickets are selling fast, so don’t wait—grab yours here and step into a world where art, fantasy, and play collide.
Horizon of Khufu: A Must-See Immersive Journey in NYC
New York City is known for its immersive and cutting-edge cultural experiences, but Horizon of Khufu takes things to another level—literally transporting visitors back 4,500 years to the heart of Ancient Egypt.
New York City is known for its immersive and cutting-edge cultural experiences, but Horizon of Khufu takes things to another level—literally transporting visitors back 4,500 years to the heart of Ancient Egypt. I had the incredible opportunity to attend this awe-inspiring virtual reality exhibit, and I can confidently say that it’s an absolute must-see.
Located in Midtown Manhattan, Horizon of Khufu uses state-of-the-art virtual reality technology to allow guests to explore the Great Pyramid of Giza in unprecedented detail. Over the course of 45 minutes, this fully immersive journey takes you deep inside the legendary structure, guiding you through its hidden chambers and long-lost corridors, all while uncovering the mysteries of one of history’s most iconic and enigmatic wonders.
From the moment I arrived, I knew this was going to be something special. After a brief introduction, I put on the VR headset, and within seconds, I was standing at the base of the Great Pyramid, looking up at its towering limestone facade, bathed in the golden light of the Egyptian sun. The realism was staggering—it truly felt like I was there.
As the experience unfolded, I ventured through the intricate passageways of the pyramid, marveling at its ancient construction and elaborate design. I explored the King’s Chamber, the Queen’s Chamber, and the Grand Gallery, each more mysterious than the last. The narration provided fascinating insights into how the pyramid was built, the spiritual beliefs of the ancient Egyptians, and the role of Pharaoh Khufu, who commissioned this monumental structure over 4,500 years ago.
What sets Horizon of Khufu apart from other historical exhibits is the sheer depth of immersion. The combination of high-definition visuals, 3D spatial audio, and interactive movement made me feel like I was truly exploring a lost world. Every detail, from the textures of the stone to the flickering torchlight along the walls, was designed to capture the wonder and mystery of Ancient Egypt. In the making of Horizon of Khufu, Excurio produced all the 3D assets and animations, the narrative, and the technology (a cutting-edge, free-roaming experience lasting 45 minutes, accommodating 100 visitors simultaneously). The entire process, from concept art to using motion-capture actors for character animation, was managed by Excurio.
One of the most jaw-dropping moments was witnessing the pyramid in its original splendor—gleaming with polished white limestone and crowned with a golden capstone. It was a sight unlike anything I’ve ever seen, offering a rare glimpse of how the pyramid looked in its prime, long before centuries of erosion and looting took their toll.
If you’ve ever dreamed of visiting Egypt, exploring ancient ruins, or stepping into the past, this experience is the closest thing to time travel. Horizon of Khufu isn’t just an exhibit—it’s an adventure, one that brings history to life in a way that books, documentaries, and traditional museums simply cannot.
I can’t recommend this experience enough. Whether you’re a history buff, an Egyptology enthusiast, or simply someone looking for an unforgettable outing in NYC, Horizon of Khufu is a must-see event. Tickets are available now, and I highly encourage booking in advance—this is an experience you won’t want to miss.
Head to Horizon of Khufu NYC to reserve your spot and prepare for a journey back in time.
Trust me, you don’t want to miss this one.

Le Petit Village
We had the pleasure of dining at Le Petit Village before its official opening, and it was nothing short of spectacular.
We had the pleasure of dining at Le Petit Village before its official opening, and it was nothing short of spectacular. From the first sip of a meticulously crafted cocktail to the final bite of a rich and flavorful Steak au Poivre, every element of the experience transported us to the charming villages of Provence. This highly anticipated French bistro, opening on February 20, 2025, at 173 7th Avenue South in the West Village, is poised to become one of the city's most coveted dining destinations.
Behind this new concept is a powerhouse team of restaurateurs and investors. Owners Mathias Van Leyden and Mino Habib, known for Loulou Petit Bistro & Speakeasy and Adelaide’s Salon, have teamed up with New York Jets Captain C.J. Mosley and his business partner Brandon Wassel to bring this vision to life. For Van Leyden, the project is a deeply personal one, inspired by his childhood spent in the small villages of Southern France in the late 1970s.
The menu, crafted by Executive Chef Mehjabin Ahmed, is a love letter to French regional cuisine. With experience in some of the world’s most celebrated restaurants, including Eleven Madison Park, Le Coucou, Spice Market, and Jean’s, Chef Mehjabin has designed a menu that blends classic French techniques with a seasonal, terroir-driven approach. Guests can look forward to Coq au Vin, a slow-braised chicken dish simmered in red wine, or the rich, comforting Cassoulet, a slow-cooked medley of beans, sausage, and confit duck. Other highlights include Raclette, featuring warm, melted cheese served over potatoes and charcuterie, the rustic and flavorful Ratatouille, and the indulgent Bœuf Bourguignon, a tender, wine-braised beef dish that embodies the heart of French cooking.
For those who prefer to dine earlier in the day, brunch will launch on March 22nd, bringing a new layer of indulgence to the experience.
A restaurant with such thoughtful cuisine deserves an equally refined bar program, and Le Petit Village delivers with a cocktail menu designed by Jeremy Le Blanche of Fantom Creative Hospitality. With a background at La Reserve St. Tropez and Thyme Bar NYC, Le Blanche’s creations push the boundaries of traditional French mixology. The Rose De Chloe, a blend of bourbon, Ratafia, and salted caramel Campari topped with meringue and dehydrated rose, is a must-try. The Fleure Blanche offers an eye-catching mix of bee pollen-infused vodka, St. Germain Elderflower, cucumber Pani Puri syrup, and edible glitter. Other standouts include the smoky Devilwood Old Fashioned and the playful yet sophisticated My First Love. Each cocktail is not just a drink but an experience, with carefully selected ingredients designed to enhance both flavor and presentation.
The ambiance at Le Petit Village is just as inviting as its menu. Designed by Delphine Mauroit of DMDesign - Architecture, the 3,000-square-foot space blends old-world French elegance with modern intimacy. The bi-level venue features two bars, seating ten guests at the main bar and six on the mezzanine, while the dining room is warmed by reclaimed wood, parquet flooring, and exposed brick. Dark red leather banquettes, softly lit brass sconces, and a vintage fireplace create an inviting, cozy atmosphere. Upstairs, a private dining and cocktail lounge adds an element of exclusivity, featuring nostalgic black-and-white party photos reminiscent of New York’s vibrant nightlife history. Outside, the classic French storefront is adorned with a hand-painted deep red and white façade, climbing greenery, and an old-world charm that makes it feel as though it has always been part of the neighborhood.
Reservations will soon be available on www.lepetitvillagenyc.com. With its authentic French cuisine, artfully crafted cocktails, and a setting that captures the romance of Provence, Le Petit Village is set to become a beloved destination for both locals and visitors alike. Whether you’re stopping by for a comforting Bœuf Bourguignon, savoring a signature cocktail, or discovering the hidden speakeasy upstairs, this is a place where every meal feels like a journey—and every guest is part of the story.
