Billion Oyster Party 2026

The 2026 Billion Oyster Party brought together supporters, seafood lovers, educators, and members of New York’s waterfront community for a lively evening centered around oysters, conversation, and the future of New York Harbor.

At the heart of the event was Billion Oyster Project, the nonprofit working to restore oyster reefs throughout New York Harbor while also connecting students and local communities with the city’s marine environment.

Oysters once played a major role in the ecology of New York Harbor, helping filter the water and creating habitat for other marine life. Billion Oyster Project is working to bring that ecosystem back by restoring oyster reefs on a large scale, with a long-term goal of returning hundreds of millions of oysters to the harbor.

During the evening, the organization highlighted its plan to introduce more than 250 million oysters back into New York Harbor. The project also pointed to signs of a healthier ecosystem, including returning wildlife and oyster reefs beginning to reproduce on their own.

But the organization’s work goes beyond restoration alone. Education is a major part of its mission, with students getting hands-on opportunities to learn about marine science, conservation, and New York City’s waterfront.

One of the biggest upcoming initiatives is the Floating Classroom, a NYC Ferry vessel being transformed into an educational experience on the harbor. The program is expected to bring more than 10,000 New York City public school students onto the water each year, giving them a chance to study the ecosystem firsthand and learn about careers connected to the harbor and maritime industries.

The Billion Oyster Party helped bring all of that work to life in a more relaxed setting. Guests were able to enjoy oysters and drinks while learning more about the organization, meeting people involved in its programs, and seeing how environmental restoration can also build stronger connections between New Yorkers and their waterfront.

The atmosphere was social and energetic, but the larger message remained clear: restoring New York Harbor is not just about oysters. It is also about education, conservation, community, and making sure future generations grow up with a stronger connection to the waters surrounding the city.

It was a memorable evening that combined great food, a strong sense of community, and a mission that is helping reshape the future of New York Harbor.
